Whats up guys. I have a queastion for ya. Im going to lower my Tahoe (96 2WD 4DR) next month and put some 20's onit. Question is I hear if I do a 4-4 drop I cant put 9-10" wide wheels on the back. I cant believe its true b/c of the ones you see in the mags. I was thinking of 20X8 w/ 245/40-20 in front and 20X9.5 w/ 275/40-20 in rear. Would this work and what backspacing would i need. And what about 45 series tires. I know a little tall but would save rims in the long run.

I didn't have a 4-door, but my experience might help you out a little...

When I had my 2-door Tahoe lowered 5/6 with my 18x10s in the rear they would rub on the inside of the rear fender well when the truck would tweak. Tweak like pulling into a drive way or something like that. It didn't rub enough to hurt the tire just ate some of the paint away on the inner fender well, but I didn't mind the rubbing cause it didn't happen very often. So, the only probably I can see you having is it might rub very little on the rear inner fender well. It will depend on your back spacing and if a 4/4 drop on a 4-door is low enough to get the wheel/tire level with the inner fender well where it would rub.

I think you would be ok with the tire combo you mentioned as long as you get the correct backspacing. :D

Thanks for the info guys. Have you heard any issues on relocating the gas tank when doing a flip or bags on a 4dr

the only time i have heard of running into problems with the gas tank is my friends 92 gmc suburban with 40 some odd gallon gas tank. He has to get rid off it in lieu of a new tahoe/burban gas tank or possible a fuel cell.

I wont have any troubles with my gas tank, well when it gets laid out in a month or two.

My 4dr is lowered 4" in the back with no problems at all

yeah if you look under the truck the fuel filler hose & bypass are going right over axle and there just at the top of the frame.So if you did a c-notch for flip or a 4 link the hose will get hit. Also whats a good back spacing for Chevy's front & rear?

I haven't really paid attention to this on my Yukon and the wife's got it at work, so I can't go look at it. You say it's at the top of the frame, right? So it's right in the area where the frame and floor of the body meet? If so, then I see it as being a non-issue. Unless you're planning to step-notch the rear and cut a hole in the rear floor, the axle will never get up high enough to hit that, especially if you're only running a typical c-notch.

Thats true. I just heard some stories about people bottoming out oand cracking the line.They were probably just stories. I think it was the same guy that told me I couldnt put 275/40-20 with a 9.5 inch wheel on the back. I still cant decide what drop I want to do.

Nothing special right now. Since these pics were taken I've added clear sidemarkers and a 30-bar billet insert.

how much did you lower it. the front fender on mine is about 5 inches from the top of the tire & the rear is about 4-4.5 inches.

3" coils in the front. 2" shackles in the rear. It sat 3/4" lower in the rear stock, that's why I only went 2" back there. The wife is complaining that it's not low enough, so I'm going to add a set of 2" control arms up front for 5" and then 4-link and bag the rear.

that would look sweet. I was thinking of spindles & 3" springs in the fron and 4"shackles/hanger kit in rear. Do you think there will be enough travel in the rear w/o a c notch. And Im debating on 35 or 40 serires tires. I like the 35's but the 40 would be a better ride

I'm not sure if you'd be good without a notch or not. I've known people to complain about a 4" rear drop on these things without a notch and have bottoming issues. You'd just have to try it and see.

right now i have a 4/4 and a little mini notch in back, along with helper bags. I have had no problems ever bottoming out or with the fuel line.:read:
