View Full Version : Has anyone ever put a 95 dash in a 88-93 truck?

I'm looking at maybe changing out my old 1989 "square" dash for a new 1995 "rounded" dash.
I need some info....I've seen magazines where trucks have done it, but how easy is it? I want to change everything to make it look like a newer model truck.....Heck, I'd even consider putting in 03 dash if it will fit.
Anybody out there have any thoughts or expertise on this swap?
How do you do that?

*whistles* ok here we go... I asked this a looong time ago and got the response that it is really, really hard to do. You have to reroute all the ac stuff, change out electrical components etc. The mounts would have to be fabbed up entirely on your own too. I'm insterested if anyone actually has instructions for this... I might be ditching my 96 burban.. could possibly strip the dash out....

I'm considering trying to glass a custom one up myself this summer... I have no idea how that will turn out, but it might be fun :)

It would be cool if someone could put some info out ther for us.
I know someone has done it......I plan on fiberglassing the whole thing anyway, so my AC, electrical, and other items can be moved with no problem.......I just need if the dash will fit, or is there modification that needs to be done first.
I would hate to go buy the new dash and have to hack it up or something.:banghead:

Dude, this is the SECOND time you've started a thread asking this question and this is the SECOND time I'm going to tell you that you need to learn the powers of the search button. http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/images/search.gif
Myself and CKTA have done same-year swaps and he and I both have answered this same question over and over and over and I'm done answering what's already there to find.

on 1badgmc's behalf, when you answer a question over and over again then people keep on asking the same question it does get annoying. he and ckta are very knowledgable on things like this so i dont think there is a need for a "second opinion" just search man and make everyone's life easier. if you can't find what your looking for in the search then feel free to ask a question.

This is why I would like a second opinion.........
and I quote "Thanks for the compliments, but I'm not as good as I sound. I wish my physical mechanical skills were as good as my brain so I could actually work on things. I've never done any bodywork other than smoothing out my dash and helping to color sand my truck. I'm not too good at being a shadetree mechanic either, but I'll at least make a good try. I'll be teaching myself more stuff so I can save money with my wife's BMW by doing as much of the small stuff as I can. hehe" end quote
See thats the bad thing about some people, they love to tell you how to do something, but can't really do it themselves.
By the way, I couldn't find anything from 1badgmc on dash swaps, but I did find one where he was putting in a few autometer guages in a 87 or something...:boring:
I'm not here to argue, just needing to know a bit more about the swap.......hell my bodyshop has already started to make an aluminum dash for my truck, so I guess we're all beating a dead horse.:deadhorse

You asked the question twice and BOTH times I told you to try searching. Like I said, myself and CKTA have both answered this question many, many times. I never said I was an expert, but I'm glad you think I know nothing about doing a dash swap since he and I have both come closer to doing what you want than anyone else on this board.
:read: Do a SEARCH. You'll find replies to both sides of the coin giving you your second, third, fourth and maybe even fifth opinion. :read:

Old news bro......aluminum dash is the route I'm taking.
And for someone who isn't an expert, i'm glad to see that you diss other members of this forum by saying that you have come closer than anyone.....:worship:
Man....how does your ego fit into a standard cab?!?
Anyway, sorry for any confusion.......but motorized aluminum is the way I'm headed........got a sweet idea for a small motorized flat screen tv to pop out of the dash......like the navigation system of the 03 350Z
No need to use your "SEARCH" button.....I'll send you a step by step video if you're interested.
Thanks for being so helpful.
