I was thinking about painting my gauge needles red to match my truck and other pieces inside my truck. But if I paint them, and they are no longer clear, will I be able to see them at night? And do you think red will look good?

You only want one coat of paint from everything I've heard. Multilpe coats will make the light harder and harder to shine through.

If you used a candy it would shine through.....

Actually, the way the light travels through the needles, you can put as many coats on as you want. The paint is on the bottom of the needles anyhow. The light shines through the needle, which is clear, and then lights up the paint on the bottom.
A transparent candy-type color would actually be worse because it would allow you to see through to the gauge face and somewhat make the needle disappear a little.

just use one layer of color that should be fine(bottom of needle), u can use a sharpie or some nail polish, someone in here used nail polish and said that it worked just as well.....TrEy:D

Do I have to pull the cluster completely out of the truck to remove the needles?

yea just take the dash bezel off around the gauges, then the lense. When its just the bare cluster starrin back at u gently, GENTLY, take a fork and slide it under the needle and pry away from the cluster.
