here's a video from monday of the first startup

and a few pics of the setup

and this is what the rear cargo area of every tahoe should look like, never leave home without bass and lots of sticky traction via mickey thompson ET streets.

I have been debating between a whipple and procharger....what do you think?? why did you go with the procharger over the whipple?

well whipples boost right away, its good for towing, and tiresmoke. the centrifugals build boost as rpms climb, which means, you get some time to get traction and hook, then the boost starts to build, of course that procharger is 2 units bigger than the one that comes on the kit for our trucks..

how much did that setup cost you?? i think i should probably go with the pro charger to try and avoid traction issues

what are some specs on that engine? That thing is bad!!

dont ya think that filters suckin some hot air right off that header???

nice choice...prochargers:rocking: :rocking:

thats a 400 smallblock built from a bowtie block (4 bolt mains, the other 3 caps are splayed) o-ringed with copper head gaskets with a cola 4340 crank, oliver billet rods, ross turbo pistons (8.5 to 1), cam is a comp cams hydraulic roller 230/236 at .050 and .510/.520 lift with 1.5 rockers ground on a 113 LSA. heads are out of the box brodix track 1 heads. intake is an accel air gap, injectors are 55# siemens injectors. throttle body is a 1000 cfm tpi style accel billet throttle body.

for boost thats a procharger F1, being toned down ALOT with teh P1SC on my stock 350 I ran a 3.25 pulley and a 3.00 pulley, the pulley on the F1 is 4.25 inches, procharger guesses 15 lbs of boost I haven't spun it high enough to see what it'll do, I'm still afraid of melting my pistons.

for teh computer I have a splice in harness from fasttrack performance. I'm running a accel gen 7 dfi with wideband O2, I'm still sorting out a few minor electrical gremlins today the truck burnt out 2 coils and an ingition module. I'm also using a tpi style HEI distributor (can pull a crank reference signal) from MSD and an older style coil to work with teh dfi

I guess to be complete I'm running braided lines from front to back and an aeromotive A1000 fuel pump (noisy as hell but I'd rather have too much fuel than not enough) with -12 line out of the tank (think garden hose) -8 from the pump to the engine, split into two -6's into each rail, and two -6's to a paxton regulator and a -6 return line into the gas tank. The factory pump/sending unit is only there to plug the hole and act as a fuel level sending unit.

the intercooler is in a tech article here on FSC.com...by kenk1500SC, its a ford powerstroke diesel intercooler (off of ebay for 225 bucks before shipping) and a howe aluminum radiator, and some flexalite fans to fit, hoses were a pain in the but but I spent the extra cash after I ran out of patience trying rubber hoses for the stainless bend to fit upper and lower hoses. for teh amount of rubber hoses I tried, it would have been smarter to pay for the stainless up front.

nice!!!, when u get tired of that engine, let me know, itll look purty in my hoe!!:D whats the estimated hp?

Y2KLimited
06-01-2003, 02:55 AM
estimations are exactly taht estimations, I'm waiting till i claim real numbers till its on the dyno and I have the graphs to prove it, but the engine with a 4bbl on it did 450/460 on an engine stand, add 15 lbs of boost....well they say 14.7 is a 100% gain, conservatively I think 700+

Damn that thing sounds mean:D You just made me want a supercharger sooner then I had planned:naughty:

What were you guys running for software on the notebook?

Y2KLimited
06-01-2003, 03:08 PM
that would be the accel gen 7 dfi's calmap 2002 software, I really don't know much about the stuff but can rough tune it, but when its all sorted out and running decent enough, its going on the dyno and getting tuned in the hands of a pro. The factory computer just didn't have the ability to run this engine to half of its potential

You should get a boost gauge on that thing to see what kind of boost it's pulling. I'm a little anxious to see some dyno numbers too.

You talked about traction problems with the whipple ... I think you are gonna have traction problems with that thing as well. :D

Y2KLimited
06-01-2003, 06:49 PM
well the belt is slipping like hell, the boost gauge goes up to 4-5 lbs. then the belt slip kicks in......and during this time the wideband 02 is trying to keep a 13.0 to 1 a/f ratio.....when the belt starts to slip and the engine doesn't make enough boost it winds up getting flooded and won't rev past 5000 rpms. I need to find myself a 3 inch idler pulley or a smaller belt, but since I'm such an unlucky fool I didn't write down the belt number I have on it (biggest dayco polycog made I think its a 115 inch 6 rib) so I'm stuck guessing to try to find a smaller belt...biggest issue now is the tranny wasn't reading any input speed, and wouldn't move the monster in any gear.....I think I found out the problem, some certain dumbass (me) didn't seat the torque convertor fully into the tranny....so the tranny is detatched right now and the convertor is seated, and i'm on dinner break waiting to put it back in.

as for the whipple....I've always run procharger with teh tahoe, you might be thinking of james b with another 2wd 4dr tahoe (his is meadow green) who's having terrible traction issues with his truck, my truck could pull a 1.8-1.9 60 ft on street tires, to cure my new found problems I decided to go this route

http://james.jaguar.net/y2klimited/tahoetrunk.jpg

28x12.5x15LT mickey thompson ET streets on 15x10 rims...if these suckers can't make me traction no tire will.

I wasn't aware that JamesB was having traction problems. I remember him saying he will if he doesn't take caution not to, but nothing bad. I know in my truck, if I roll into it, I won't spin, but if I just hammer it from less than 5 I will spin on a good street, but less than 10 on a crappy surface, you can just stick a fork on me, cause I'm done. That's even with the P285/75 BFG all terrains.
I am looking to find me a set of 18" rims with a nice performance tire which I'm hoping will solve some of my problems as well as give me a better launch.

I usually run 18x10 rims with 285/50 pirelli scorpion zeros, they got me good times at teh track with minimal wheelspin (which is actually good saves the drivetrain somewhat since I did blow up my rear and take out the tranny as a result 150 miles after putting the P1SC on my stock 350  )

they're 29 inches tall and I run 4.10's with a 2800 stall, can't complain at all, but at this point for real traction I have tjat set of ET streets. I just need to get it driveable to test them out but i hope they'll do the trick. :burn:

Steve doesn't have a valid log-on account here any more, so he will be unable to respond.

I can tell you has has a heap of stuff left over from the original supercharger kit that he'd be happy to sell.

You can contact him on the Pacific-Audio GM truck performance forum.
