We got to romp around a bit at the Perris off road area on Saturday, place was deserted. I'll keep this simple. OBS vs. NBS drag racing results in second post. Enjoy!

DRAG RACE #1 - OBS 5.7/4L60E/K&N/Flow/Accel/4.56's/37" GYs/106k miles vs. NBS 5.3/4L60E/K&N/Flow/4.56's/37" GY's/35k miles

OBS took it. We lined up and hit it, and the results speak for themselves. Nuff said.

Naw, we were both in 2wd and both had about the same launches- and we both knew we were runnin.

The 5.7 has it's peak torque/power available earlier then the 5.3 (200HP@4k, 310 lb/ft tq@2.4k) compared to the 5.3 which is a higher performing/RPM motor (285HP@5k, 315lb/ft@4k). So, the 5.3L would def win in a longer drag, but we went like 1/8~1/4 mile, and it's all about the low end to get the tires moving faster. Takes the NBS longer to get into it's peak curves and get the tires moving.

My old Corvette w/L98 used to beat newer Vettes off of the line all because of the low RPM hp/tq curves the L98 had. They would win 1/4's or longer, but I would always take the short runs.

You are talking peak#'s and peak #'s dont necessarily win races cause you are not at peak most of the time. The 5.3 has a much flatter torque curve which is more useable.

I had a 94 with stk tires and my 02 with 35" with 4.10 is better off the line.... I can jump into traffic with ease compared to my 94.

You have a pretty good distance between you two for only a 1/8-1/4 mile run........maybe you just hooked up better ????? Are you sure he has 4.56's????

No sense in figuring out why. He must have skidded out and I got a better launch. I understand the 5.3 has a much wider useable torque/hp range, and even though the peak isn't until higher, a lot of that is available at lower RPMs. He definitely has 4.56's. I will see if I can get him to go to Carlsbad with me and we will settle it there. Same tires, same gears, both autos, OBS vs. NBS. Then we can compare trap times, top speeds and things.

Must be all of the chrome I have, plus I did take off the trailer hitch :D
