Popping noise from radio

I have a 89 full size with the 3 piece radio ,cass.The problem is, that when I turn the radio on It lets out this loud popping cracking sound at the speakers.Also has a annoying lite pitch after it is turned on while listening . The radio still gets good reception and works good except for this noise.Looking for some help on this one ,I am not up to speed on this stuff. Do I need a new radio or is there a fix. THANKS

you probably have interference from some hot line running near a speaker. pull your speakers out and see if there are any other wires nearby. if so, tape them to the side and out of the way.
