I just got my paycheck for $600 bux and would like to get a system for my 03 gmc sierra. i dont have that much money cuz im only 16, but u guys think that would be enough for a "decent" system? I would like to get:
(2) 10" subs
An amp
All new speakers around
Decent deck that plays: mp3,cd,cd-r,cd-rw
Any inputs?

Save another $600 pay check then you will have a total of $1,200 for your audio system. then you will be able to get a clean system. $600 bucks wont be enough for all that you want. You are not including a box or installation. Hope that helps.

I would not get in a hurry and buy stuff just because it is cheap and fits. I would buy the cd player that you want and then wait and get the speakers you want and then the subs. I have gone the cheap route and the expensive route and by doing things one thing at a time the expensive route is much better.

i would save up a few more $600 pay checks and then start buying, in the meantime start looking around for good prices, like ebay would be a good start....Trey:D

I think im going to get the Alpine CDA-9813 deck it looks like a good deck and i found it on ebay for around $280 "Buy it Now". Anyone have any experience with this deck? And how does it perform?
Thanks

If you buy the unit off of ebay just be careful to read the whole description. Sometimes you could get had by buying a used or refurbished unit.

Yeah if you don't mind not having a factory warranty eBay is the way to go.
I got
Pioneer DEH6400 $250 with wiring harness, antenna adapter, dash peice. (BestBuy Demo model)
JBL 600.1 $200 shipped.
2 '03 Kicker comp VR 12s about $180 shipped.
Infinity kappa 52.5 2 ways $80 shipped.
Rockford Fosgate Punch 200.2 $75 (pawnshop)
Wiring for the JBL was about $60, the Punch 200 wiring was free although I did have to get a distibution block.
The Sub box probably cost about 30-40 bucks since I made it myself.
Then I probably spent about $30 on fiberglass stuff to install the Infinitys (which still aren't in after sitting in my room for 3 weeks).
Oh yeah, along time ago I replaced the from 4x6s with some cheapo pioneers, and right now I have some old 6x9s that someone gave me in boxes on the back seat.
So I geuss I've spent about $1000 so far. I want to redo some stuff like the sub box but it can wait :D.

jt321: I have an ext cab Z71 and have a JL custom box with one JL 12w3v2 and an MTX amp. It was $950 installed. I guess it depends on what you want. But I wish I had waited and gotten two 12's and custom built box. So, it might kill you, but I would highly suggest you wait for the best or will be dissappointed in the long run.

So what'd you end up with?

you can build a very nice sounding system for not a lot of money
2 Elemental Designs 10kx's -$150
JBL 600.1 -$219
deck of your choice
JBL 180.2 -$149
CDT CL-61a's -$150
subs are at www.edesignaudio.com ; CDT components are on www.thezeb.com ; JBL amps are at www.carmedia1.com
that seems to be a hard system to beat for the money. i'm sure you could do a louder system for the money, but that set up should sound sweet

Im going to get an Alpine CDA-7897 for $425. Sounds good? Then get some component speakers like infinity 6 1/2? or would CDT be better?
Thx

can't comment on the Infinity comps, but the CDT's freaking own
that deck will be more than fine for you also

I would recommend the JL xr components they sound great for the price, even the xr coax's sound awesome. I would get those way before the infinity's.
