I know the 350's did not get the roller until '96...with the Vortec heads. I doubt the 305 has the roller?

There is a rumor that some did have roller cams but I never have seen proof. Mostly ego talk I believe. But your block most likely has provisions for the spider tray. So all you would need to swap to a roller cam would be the roller lifters, spider tray and retainers, front cam retainer plate and the cam.

I can tell you without a doubt that I have had 3 1992-1996 Fullsize G10-G20 Vans that had FACTORY roller cam 305/350s in them. My uncle's 1994 C1500 350 TBI that he bought new in 1993 also had a Factory roller cam when that engine was torn apart at 315K miles.

I worked for GM a few years ago and did intake gaskets by the dozens. Roughly 1 in 5 TBI trucks from 1992-1995 would have a roller cam. I should mention that most of the roller cams that I have seen are 305s and in 2500 and up trucks/vans.

It seems like the heavy trucks like 3/4 and one ton trucks, and the big vans tend to have roller cams. Also the old caprices. The trucks and vans though are also the ones with 4 bolt mains a lot of times.

I had a couple of spare motors a while back one was a 89 305 and the other an 88 350, both were out of IROC Camaro's and BOTH were factory roller cam's. I think that they started around 86 or so when they changed to the center bolt heads.

87-up 305's and 350's did come with a roller cam and lifters. At least the ones I've worked on. Peace.

Well jackedchevy, since all the "special" roller cam TBI recipients came out of the woodwork the only real way to find out for sure if you have a roller cam is to take off a valve cover and look down into the lifter valley. Look for the presence of the spider tray and retainers. Below is a pic of what you are looking for.

Your TRUCK a 95, I would be surprised if it has a roller.

You could, but that wont help you. You have to pull your intake manifold off to get at the lifter valley and see whats up..

                        Not on TRUCKS.

Again as Fast305 has reported...it seems the 3/** and up trucks/vans and/or with HD emissions came with the rollers. I would say MOST....IF NOT ALL....1/2T trucks with TBI were flat tappet cams. This has been a debate for a very long time, it seems there have a been a few that claim 1/2T SBC have rollers....I would say those are exceptions not the rule.

You can pull a valve cover and see the retainers down through the pushrod hole...use a flashlight. I've had a flat tappet 305 ('88 1/2 ton truck) and a roller in a 94 3/4 ton. Pull a valve cover and look closely.

Dam it! It looks like the 3/4ton and up got the good S**t.

I wouldn't really call it good, UNLESS you are wanting low-end torque. The HD L05s ran 8.75:1 compression and a roller cam equivalent to the peanut roller in the 86-90 TPI 305s.
