  • Diablo Sport TM questions

Diablo Sport says the following about torque management:

    Torque Management

PLEASE NOTE: Disabling torque management will put greater stress on your drive line.
    • TM Abuse Mode time limit:
This is the time in abuse mode as a function of temperature. Turning it off in conjunction with Upshift Torque reduction and %Torque Reduction vs RPM will eliminate torque management.
    • %Torque Reduction vs RPM:
Torque reduction as a function of RPM, turning it off in conjunction with TM abuse mode time limit and upshift torque reduction will eliminate torque management.
    • Upshift Torque reduction:
Torque reduction control for each individual gear, turning it off in conjunction with TM abuse mode time limit and %Torque Reduction vs RPM will eliminate torque management. However we have noticed that the shift feel when disabling the upshift torque reduction in trucks and SUV's is reduced and therefore recommend leaving it ON for trucks and SUV's.

I have a 2001 2500HD 6.0L. Why do they recomend leaving on Upshidt Torque Reduction? Is it merely the feel of the shifts or could I seriously damage the transmission?

I know that if I disable TM in theory I could hurt the transmission, but is iy not tough enough to handle it?

    Re: Diablo Sport TM questions

The truck still has alot of TM that the predator does not turn off. I have all mine set to off, and no problems. Even though I did have to rebuild transmission at 155k

yeah I know, I have turned all three off as well, and then just turned the first two off and didn't really notice any difference. I am just curious if any problem will really occur.

        Re: Diablo Sport TM questions

the HD trucks use the 80e transmission... TM elimination does
make the transmission perform differently. wheather the
transmission is up to the task is how well the transmission was
        built to begin with.
if under 300000mi it should be fine... if more than that, thatd
be teetering on somewhat a risk. why?
for many miles the trans has been heated, overheated, good habits
bad habits, whatall... anyway some abuse (maybe unbeknown to you)
has already occured... how much? dunna know. anyway. making the
trans shift more aggressively, shorter shift time, etc may
accelerate the failure, because there is already fatique.
*** the warning is a disclaimer to cover thyne buttocks. ***
if it breaks and you used this mode.. dont ask them to pay for
        it... kindda clause
GM put this TM into their systems to hedge their bet that when
in force. they shouldnt see you in their warrenty line for a
busted transmission or driveline issue. and again they were wrong.
this may have slowed the bleeding, but they still had their
        share of warrenty transmission jobs.

        1. does TM effect the driveline?
        you bet!
        2. will it damage my driveline?
possibly? depends on how damaged it is now...
        3. can it improve what i have now?
        yes.
        4. i installed the remove TM and now ive got a busted truck, why?
see answer 2.... fix it (correctly) and retest

          Re: Diablo Sport TM questions

I have 66,000 miles on it. Dodge, Ford etc do not have TM. I know why Chevy has TM, but are there transmissions inferior to others?

How much TM can the Preditor really take out? From how people describe custom tunes I am under the impression that the Diablo cannot take it all, or even most out.

i cant speak for diablo.. i dont have one of their files..
but your stock file states this:

            Abuse mode - starts @ 1400rpm
Torque Reduction vs Torque vs RPM - from 1200rpm to 6800rpm
you have stock 55% troque reduction

Engine TM - maximum allowed calculated torque
            400rpm 275.97656
            800rpm 310.39062

so you are saying that with my truck whether I turn the TM "on or off" with the diablo it will not make much if any difference?

                Re: Diablo Sport TM questions

no, i am saying i dont know.. i dont know what they do to vary
                their TM settings.
you might just do small increments of adjustment to adjust to your
                liking.

i'd leave tm on, you wont notice a sotp change unless you mod some other stuff with it. Or use a wait4me, whealty, etc tune making your diablo useless :p

Ive had all 3 of my TM parameters shut off for 2 yrs now and it hasn't messed up a thing ... I also quickened shifts by -10% and bumped the shift pressure up +7% for all shifts. If you dont beat the snot out of it constantly you shouldnt have any problems
