i had varying answers to this question...

Can i treat the "distributor" on this motor like any other distributor...I.E. advance/retard timing at will....or does it have to be at 0degs TDC at all times.

some say yes, some say it wont run. anyone want to clear this up?

well everyone on here told me to advance my timing 6 degrees to make mine run better off the line so if not turning the distibutor how do you adjust it?

where they talking about advancing the timing 6 degrees with the computer advance disconnected?

because when u set base timing u do it with the computer advance disconnected and when u hook it back up it will be different?

my 93 had a wire that was kinda of a light brown color and i wanna say with a black line on it,

I run my 95 (which is the same motor) at 4*. It seems that's where it likes to run the best. But like joakwin said you will have to disconnect the timing wire to set it.

tbi motors run best with 4-6 degrees advanced.

as stated, disconnect the wire, and set the timing, easy as pie.

so this brown or brown with black stripe wire is behind the relay panel like where the fuel pump relay is?

It's right on the firewall under the plastic cover next to where your A/C lines go in. It's a brown and has a white plastic connector on it. It's the only wire in there that looks like it could be disconnected easily. Don't try to set the timing without disconnecting it first. My '88 ran best with 8 degrees, but that was with an LT1 cam. At 0 degrees, the thing was a huge turd! Once I started to bump the timing up, it really came to life.

My 94's wire is under the dash on the passenger side, just underneath where the glovebox is. Again, brown with a white strip I believe. Pat

My 94 w/ 350cid is about 7* advanced. This is where it runs best. I noticed the more mods that I did, the greater it would hesitate of the line and fall on its face. To correct this I would advance the timing 1-2 degrees till the hesitation was gone, (as long as I didnt here any knocking). This really gave me great response of the line and at the track. Hope this helps.

The 305 in my pops truck is running close to 10 degrees advanced. When we set it at 0 it fell on its face and couldn't get out of its own way. It's running an E-brock cam, intake and headers. Moved it by ear till she ran good and rechecked it. Right around 10 degrees is where she likes it!

thanks for the replies. Thats what i figured too, maybe the guys who told me its not possible thought it was a later model DIS ignition.
