  • 5.3 tapping while idling

I have a 2000 Silverado 5.3 with about 107k on it. When it is idling it has a slight tapping sound. It does not seem to be anything that is harmful, but it is kind of annoying. Does anyone know what is causing this or any way to fix it?

It does it even after it has been running for a while so it is not the "piston slap at start up" problem. It will go away after you rev the motor but will soon reappear.

Thanks in advance for your help.

do you think it may be the fuel injectors?

Could be carbon build up. If you like you could try running some gm top end cleaner through it. Available at any gm dealership. Could be sludge in the oil passages.
