the 6 lug is probley a semi float 9.5" axle and the the 8 lug could also be the same semi float or it will be a 10.5" full float axle.

The front end is probably the same as the half ton models with bigger brakes, you would have to go by the gvwr to determine if it was the heavier front end, but usually when its an 6 lug its a heavy duty half ton.

No such thing as a "heavy half" in the OBS series, though people like to refer to a 1500 with the F44 package as a heavy half, it wasn't marketed as such like the Heavy Half squarebody trucks from years before. A six lug 2500 is a 2500LD (light duty) and has a 7200 pound GVWR versus the 8600 GVWR of a regular eight lug 2500. They share the same semi-floating 9.5" rear axle, just a difference in wheel pattern. And yes, some regular 2500's (8600 GVWR) could come OPTIONAL with the full floater 10.5", not all of them like some people think. In fact it's much more common for them to have the semi.

There's one less leaf in the spring pack than a regular 2500, and on the 2WD, the front suspension is exactly the same as a 1500 other than the wheel pattern. In other words, look at it like a 1500 with a stronger rear end, 6 lug pattern, and heavier springs out back.
