  • difference between 2wd and 4wd rear ends??? 88-84 OBS

Guys I have a 91 K1500, and the rearend is going out. I have a good rear end from a friends 94 C1500. Can I pull my 6 lug axles and put them in the 2wd rear end and bolt it in or is there a difference dimensionally?

I think spring perch width is an issue. Gotta watch gears too. I'm not sure if the axle splines are the same.

The 2wd housings are 3" narrower. I think the spring perches and the shock mounts may still line up. Axle spline count should be the same (30). Your 4wd axles won't work in a 2wd housing due to the width though.

Any 4wd axle from 88-98 will bolt right in. Might be a good time to look for a 14 bolt SF.

So the pumpkin itself is wider in a 4wd? That's weird, dunno what that would accomplish...

The pumpkin is not wider, the axle tubes are longer. It is to maintain track width as the front track is wider to fit the CV shafts.
