  • TBI 350 Spark Plug Gap?

I have a set of AC Delco Platinum #1's to replace the cheap NGK's I currently have in my truck, they come gapped at .045, should I re-gap to .035?

0.045 will run fine in a TBI with quality ignition components, IMO.

When I ran my 6AL box in the 92, I had opened coppers all the way to 0.060 with absolutely no ill effects. After the 6AL box was removed I ran 0.044 on stock replacement ignition parts with no issue.

Plug gap can be touchy subject as to it's benefits and drawbacks.

Did you ever get your truck sorted out?

Yeah, there was a short in the distributor and somewhere along the way I believe the first shop had pulled the plugs to inspect them and bumped a couple when putting them back in and closed the gaps, making the terrible miss when it got warm after I picked it up from the 2nd shop the 1st time. 2nd shop discovered that and re-gapped them, and then recommended I go back to AC Delco plugs. I've ordered some Rapidfire Platinum #1's.

It still has a slight shake at warm idle, not really a rumble and certainly not a miss, but I really want it to be close to perfect because EVERYTHING is new. Also putting in a new AC Delco 195* thermostat because I believe I threw in a 160* or 180* when I got the truck (the one it had was stuck open), and the temp gauge never touches 200*, stays around 160-180 (hard to approximate), and the temp sender and pigtail in the block is new (that didn't work at all when I got the truck), so I'm wondering if the ECM is overfueling me a little bit once warm because its trying to warm it up but the low-temp t-stat isn't allowing the coolant to get hot.

IMO, cancel the order for the platinums and get some OE CR43TS plugs.

Meh I had a bad experience with them, got some that were crap, haven't liked them since.

Bad experience with AC Delco Coppers? Why continue with Delco's at all then, as the platinums are the same plug, but with platinum coating on the contacts.

FYI Platinum plugs should be gapped very carefully or the platinum will be damaged.

Would you consider all new AC Delco ignition components as quality? Wires, cap, rotor, coil, distributor, ICM, pick-up coil.

Ok...I may just check that they are all indeed .045 and throw them in and evaluate from there.

IMO, throw them in from 20ft to improve your accuracy, might take a few tries, but you'll get it.

File the the 5/8ths nut part off and I bet they fit in a 12gau shell on top of the wad. Use a rifled barrel and they might spin right in to torque.
