Will yellow tops work as starter batteries in extreme cold and stuff also? Other audio forum said yellow wont start the truck a lot of the times.

If your into SPL, the red tops are better, they have a faster discharge rate

I'm more less wanting the truck to always start and to be able to keep up with stereo and lighting needs without lights flashing a ton. I know i need to upgrade big three but the batteries might be free atleast i'm hoping so thats why i'm worrying abotu them first.

Some people will tell you that adding an aditional battery will just put more strain on the alt, but I have done this in the past, and it HAS helped

Yellow/yellow is what I always do, on my own cars and on my customers cars. If they are cheap, I will do a Red up front and a yellow out back and save them like 40 bucks.

    Re: optimas

since theyre the same battery, you can get away with just wiring them in straight parallel, pos to pos, neg to neg. if you wire them opposite and start your truck=death...lol
not to you, but to all the electrical stuff in your truck.
my engine compartment isnt as perdy as tribals, but heres what it looks like

It's recommended to have fuses within 18" of each battery ... but most people don't.
