I have a 2001 Silverado Extended Cab and plan to put 2 10's under the back seat. Is it best to fire the subs upward or downward or I guess even toward the front(Scared somebody might kick them though).

I figure upward because you can utilize the most airspace.

    Opinions please?

I have heard subs mounted both facing down and facing up...and, as long as the box is designed properly, it really didn't matter. Most like to aim them down though, that way, if you ever fold the seat up to haul something back there, there is no risk of damaging the speaker.

down fire gives the best SQ,foward firing can be tricky and possibly horrible sounding
reasoning why most people fire their subs into the rear of the car......

Yep, most subs sound better when aimed towards the back of the trunk (in a car application). The reasoning is simple. Sound is nothing more than a wave. Low notes have very long waves. For a wave to fully develope, it needs a long distance. By aiming the subs backwards, bouncing the sound off the back of the trunk, you let the sound wave develope a little further. I guess high school physics did help me some!

I'm happy with the sound of my downfiring box.

Here's my set up which seems to work very well for me, theyre facing the floor and seems to have very good heavy bass.

I have mine forward and they sound pretty good. Rap type bass might be better if they were facing down, but that's not what I was going for.

when you fire them down you cover up any mechanical noise/distortion which will make you think you can turn it up louder just be careful if you do that.

I think I am going to fire my subs upward in a ported box. Thanks for all of the comments.
