Sub Box and Amp

I have a '92 extended cab Silverado and recently had an Alpine Type E 10" and Legacy LA780(I know...its a Legacy) installed. I wanted them to put in an Infinity Reference 12" but they called up a few hours into installation and said it wouldn't fit, I was forced to buy the 10". they custom made the box, it has a fiberglass molded bottom to match the contour of the floor underneath the bench.

I want a little more bass, if you know what I mena, and I want to get a 12" box online and a new amp. Now, my question is, what kind of experiences and reccomendations do any of you guys have with a box and/or amp? I want to use my Infinity 12" and I'm looking for a cheaper 1200W monoblock amp.

i know what you meen i own a 94' chevy ext i bought two rockford subs and ran into the same problem. i ended up taking out the storage compartments on both sides of the rear bench seat i then cut a hole and instald a 10 inch rockford sub on each storage bin make sure you keep the metal brase behind it to hold up the sub the set up works nice and gives massive bass

for a cheaper amp that I have heard really good things about check into hifonics on ebay... 600W Rms amps (which is what I assume you want since you said 1200w Mono) are going for less than 200 shipped which is pretty good for that much power. as far as boxes go, you shouldn't have any trouble finding an underseat box for one 12 on ebay or somewhere else for less than $100. That is probably on the high side but I don't know for sure

I have another question, would there be a noticeable difference between a downfiring or forward firing sub? those are the only two styles I can find online, one website says that the downfiring style produces louder bass. I'm just wondering if this is true.

i been told that forward fireing boxes will hit harder than downfireing. im in the process of building a forward fireing box getting tired of the ol downfired probox.

I've been searching and I can't find a forward facing 12" box. I'm thinking I'll have to get a 12" downfiring box. I'm just wondering if the Infinity Reference 12" 1230W I have will sound alright, or would a bit of an upgrade be worth it. what downfiring box would you reccomend? I listen to classic rock, hard rock, and some metal. I'm not made of money so I'd like it to be the best bang for the buck. I guess I'd be interested in a 12" in the 1200W range.

thiers no place that sells boxes for the seat raised which is what youll have to do for a 12..... id say either make your own box OR pay someone to make one for you....

probox makes a good downfired box. i would rather build a box so that it fits my subs and then i would know that the sub is getting what it needs

I'm thinking of this box. http://www.pickupspecialties.com/Sub...ers/SGMX70.htm the mounting depth for the sub is only a hair under 6"...and my Infinity is just under 8" deep...great

I did the same thing as cheverlow with the ex-cab pockets a 10 on each side plus I had 2 under the seat for a total of 4 10 inch subs and used an old school orion 2150 amp and that thing rocked plus I didn't have to loose the seat or raise it either....

wow, that looks really cool. I wish I could do that but I don't have the time or money to fabricate something like that.

I think I'll have to go with a 10" forward fire so I can get a higher end sub and not worry about the mounting depth

heck I've only got about 50.00 in the whole thing not including the subs of course. I got the tweed for next to nothing from a local shop who ordered too much for another job and a few bucks in spray foam, wood and adhesive. it was however an all day job!

Well, I had 2, 12" JLw0s in my truck, under the back seat, amp mounted between them, hit real hard, we built the box in about 35 minutes, me and a buddy done it at a cabinet shop where he works, we have built quite a bit of boxes, but to be honest, the best thing to do is...take the seat out...im building a wall pretty soon for 4 12s...walls are great lol

A 10 can do as much as most 12's, the type E just happens to be junk. You might be better off using your box, if they built it right which might be a leap of faith. IMO prefab boxes suck as well especially if you want to throw some power at your subs. What you really need to do is figure out what volume your enclosure has and/or what volume a replacement enclosure has and look for a sub based on the enclosure size. Once you select a sub, then you should shop for an amplifier. The equipment will never sound better than the enclosure design it is put into.
