I've seen this on another forum, if you don't have the controls already you don't have the clockspring wiring going to it.

We have an '04 Tahoe and it didnt come with the steering wheel controls. My dad bought a wheel with controls and was wanting to get it installed, but when he called the dealer they said our Hoe prob doesnt have some wireing needed to make it work. Is there an easy way to figure out if we have the wires or not?

I was told by the dealer When I asked that the wires from the radio / computer or what ever throught the steering colum were already in place and that all i needed was the; wheel $392.62, 4 switches at about $22.00 each, and the wire harness in the wheel itself $30.39. Keep up the reseach and let us know. It may be an easy switch. FYI when I looked into it I was told to be careful not to set off the airbag, steps had to be taken to turn it off while you were doing the install.

Yea, that wiring you listed for $30 is the clockspring in the wheel. I remember from the other thread that the gauge cluster on some years needs to be programmed as well.
