I would just save up a little longer, and buy better quality products. You will regret it later. Peace.

    Re: Cheap System

I'd run as fast as I could away from the Sony gear. Almost any 10 year old amp would be a better buy, if you are sticking to your budget I'd buy used as you could easily upgrade used gear without losing as much money as it has already depreciated. When you sell it, it will be for close to what you paid for it.

Since Sony is junk who makes a decent cheap HU? Pioneer, Kenwood?

    Re: Cheap System

IMO, upgrade your HU, front comps, and amp them using better quality stuff! That means no Sony. I'd rather run an older model Pioneer or Alpine HU (which would be $150-180, new), spend an extra $50 and get up into better quality components. You should be able to find a much better amp than the listed Sony for under $150, as well. You will be suprised at how much bass a good set of amped comps will put out! It'll be enough to hold you over until you can work on the bass!

PS - Don't forget about the cost of wiring & a little bit of deadening! (wire for 2 amps, so that when you get your sub/amp, you won't have to rewire)

    Re: Cheap System

yeah stay away from sony.... not worse it....

so far my setting.(well mine is tahoe so more space and you know start ground for the upgrades etc.)
jensen VM9411 (BD present from boss so freebie)
    2 pair 4 Pioneer 6 1/2" 3-Way(TS-A1671R) (was like $150 circuitcity deal)
    directed D1200 ($220)
jensen subbox ( was also at circuit city $154)
so like right now well cabling etc total probably around 650 or so.

save up the money and buy the good stuff from first defiantly save you $ in long run. I'm getting better 12" sub and 6.5 component and amp for the doors as well when I get the $ to go there. so probably all around total like 1200 or so I think.

but your case I think just save up a bit more and could have good system to start with.

    Re: Cheap System

K was thinking a pioneer or alpine HU 150 180 ish which one, what should i take into account when choosing, feature wise?

Was thinking of changing the sub to 2 of these 8" assasins everyone is raving over

Does profile still make a decent low end amp? i had good experiences with them 8 or so years ago with some hollywood sound labs subs.

recommendations for the components? infinity reference the way to go? 150 ish

I have quickly found 500 is too low and may bump budget to $800ish

where do i mount the tweeter with the component set?

    thanks
    Kevin

    Re: Cheap System

Id loose the componets because stock sound just fine. Mine are clear and sound great all the way turned up. Id just go with a Pionner deck anyone, maybe a rockford fosgate amp and subs. All pretty good quality. The only HU i will run is Pioneer.

Wow, ignore the last post. The stock speakers in our trucks are friggin' terrible. There are a ton of options for speakers, are there some that you like the sound of? In your price range I really like a few year old Eclipse, Alpine, or Pioneer deck. I'd say the same for an amp, for the price of one of those profiles there are hundreds of used pieces that will sound much better.

    Re: Cheap System

    thanks M5

i was loking at this HU online, has the 5v preouts.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=190034695361

Would i be better off with 1 amp or 1 for components and 1 for subs? So many different amps can someone recommend a decent, cant go wrong amp? Im mostly a rock guy, some rap. I dont need people to hear me a mile away i just want it to sound decent in the truck.

DO i have to buy those Qform things for the components or has some devised a better alternative?

    thanks

    Re: Cheap System

That is a great starter headunit, real good sound quality and the only downgrades from their "better" headunits is active crossovers and of course a few volts on the outputs. 5v is enough though especially for a limited budget.

As for your amp question, it will be cheaper to get a big four channel and bridge the rears for the sub and use the fronts for the components. The only downfall with this scenario is that you won't quite have as much power as if you went with separate amps.

In your case, I'd find what amp/s I was going to buy first and then pick out a sub that is rated for near the power you are going to throw at it. i.e. a 1000w RMS rated sub with only 250w going to it will not sound good.

Again for amps look at brands everyone trusts:
Alpine, Eclipse, Memphis, older Rockford, older PG, Zapco, Diamond, and so on. Buying an older quality used piece IMO is better than most of the new chit anyway.

No, you don't have to buy Q-forms for components, and yes, you want components!!! Stock speakers are horrible! The Infinity comps are a decent-sounding set, but, IMO, there are better speakers out there for the money.

I recently upgraded to a set of Crystal sscw 6.5's which I bought from Larry (95stroked1500) for $155. They are powered by an older Alpine V-series amp, which I believe puts out around 75W X 2 RMS, which I picked up for around $80. I was recently in one of the local car audio shops, and they had what looked to be the newer version of my Alpine amp for $100, on sale. I'm currently adding sound deadening to the door... And man, what a difference it's making!!!

The HU you're looking at is a decent unit.

Oops forgot to answer one of your questions. x2 on the no to Q-forms the build quality on them is not good. They are way to wimpy and in our trucks I don't like where they point either. The stock locations are better.

Your dash just pops off, your doors too other than a few screws. If you search I know there is some documentation hiding somewhere on the site.
