Hello. I have a 2004 GMC Sierra EC, standard radio, but with the tweeters. I've done a lot of searching around and I think what I need to play my Creative Labs MP3 player in my truck with the factory cd player is either the...

    PIE
    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-WLW3UmS...s&i=469GM12AX2

    Or the USA spec
    http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...c=1&oid=118958

Am I right or wrong? Which one is better? Seems the USA Spec has more input oppertunities for the future. Just want to be sure Im getting the correct device.

Also I was wondering what I need to get to hook up a powered sub. I know powered subs are not as good as the real deal but Im done building systems and I just want to fill in a little bit of missing bass without losing a lot of space from my cab. From what I can tell, I can just tap into one of my speaker channels and either wire up the high level input or add a LOC and run RCA's. Correct? I dont want to lose function of the speaker so Im not going to eliminate it. So does this change the impeadence that the factory head unit is seeing? Will it hurt it? Should I tap into it with a parellel or a series circut? Or is there something like the mp3 player that I can just plug and play?

    Thanks guys!

Get a little amp with high level ins and bolt it to a box and you have a powered sub.

Yeah, I could, thanks. But I was looking for something simplier and wouldnt take up much space. Reguardless to what I run for a sub, how do I tap into the factory head unit?

    Would something like this work?

    http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/produ...productid=2829

I think that plug in ^up^there^ has an input too. Would that work for the MP3 player with the right cord? Im kinda thinking it wouldnt but I want to be sure.

    Or maybe something like this?

But I think thats for the Bose system which I dont have.

    Thanks

Anybody? I know it looks like Im answering my own questions, but Im just trying to verify exactly which products to buy to connect my MP3 player and a powered sub to the factory head unit. Mostly the MP3 player. Just thought that if I could get away with one adaptor it would be nice, but it doesn't look like thats the case. Soo I was just would like to know what product I need to buy for each type of application for my truck.

Ok guys I've been doing a lot more research but I'm still confused as to which adapter to get for my truck to use my Creative Labs MP3 player. It being non-ipod is adding to the confusion.

is this the adaptor I want? SVG-707

or is this the one? DF-GM

Re: MP3 player and powered Sub's on Factory

Hello again, just to follow up so that anyone doing a search might be able to see a result, I ended up using the USASpec DF-GM dual aux input. It was super easy to install seeing as I did not have a cd changer or an xm radio. Plug and play. And I still have an extra input if I ever want to hook up my Creative labs player as a faux dvd player I should be able to just run the audio rca's to that and the video cable to an aux screen(s). I will look more into doing that and the powered sub thing later. For now Im enjoying not having to carry around or change CD's at all.

Can you hook this up to the changer/XM radio and NOT loose one of those features? I am on the road a lot in the summer time and take my laptop that has 13 gigs of music on it. It would b e nice to listen to it through the truck speakers.

Yeah I think you should be able to hook those features back inline. There seems to be plugs for that. I do not have either, but the directions indicate how to do that.

BUT.... Im having a problem. Orginally I had this unit hooked up and switched so that the head unit was reading it as a CD changer. Then one day I pluged my player into the into the cord and I got a "CDX ERROR" message up on my head unit. So I switched it so that it was inputing as an XM player. That worked for a few days and now today I got a XMR ERROR message. Now it wont work at all. This thing is just plug and play, kinda hard to screw up. Is the problem with my radio? I just had it replaced under warrenty a few months before I installed this unit. Am I doing somthing wrong?
