System questions.....

Ok, I am getting my first truck. It is going to be a single cab chevy short bed. Now being 16 years old I dont have alot of money. I work but dont get much at all. Also, I am a complete noob when it comes to this system stuff. Now I am now wanting the BEST stuff out there or anything. I just want something that will last and sound good. I have looked around on ebay and I have found two different setups around the same amount. Are these any good. I have heard alot of bad reviews over audiobahn stuff.

Also, will this stuff fit in a single cab? Also, from this you have an idea of my price rang. If this isn't that great of quality or even worth getting im up for suggestions.
Also, I did search around on here for a while about the autobahn stuff but really didnt find much.

I'm 17 and have a single cab as well. I also didnt know much about the sound system thing until i put mine it. I got everything on ebay. Youre lookin to spend a little over 300 dollars for good quality gear...if you got around the same set up i did. I got a nice jvc radio for 100, a legacy 1000 watt 4 channel amp for 100, a kenwood 1200 watt sub for 50, and two alpine speakers for 80. Youll also need an amp installation kit and a radio installation kit so the new radio will fit in the old space. I have had trouble fitting everything. I had my sub behind the middle seat of my bench which made my middle seat not fold down. I have two subs now and am thinking about putting one behind each seat and the amp in the middle. You dont have much space to work with back there so you have to be creative or live with the seat pulled up a little more than youd like.

Build your own box for about $25. That leaves you $140 for a sub(s) if you want to stay within your range ($357 w/ shipping). Also, if you are using the factory head unit, you will need a Line Output Converter.

First off, a "system" does NOT mean putting a sub into a vehicle.

The Diamond amp listed above will put more to a sub than the Kenwood or Legacy amps listed above. You'll be better off going with a decent single sub setup rather than cheap dual subs. Also, building your own box is a great idea. Good project for woods class, or the like.

You'll hear all views on the Audiobahn stuff, but IMO, it's cheap quality stuff with low SQ, that you pay for the "bling" on it. I've owned all different types of Kickers before, and can't really complain about any of them. They served their purpose... Getting loud.

Get your wiring from Knu... It's pretty good quality stuff, at an affordable price. If you're just trying to make it loud, look at something like that Diamond amp, and then a sub in the CVR lineup or the older L5 lineup as far as Kicker goes. If you'd be interested in running the amp listed above, look for a 4ohm single voice coil sub, or a dual 2ohm voice coil sub. Should be some good entry level bass for ya.

That's the "system" our work truck has in it, and people are still impressed that it's a single 12", and that's all old skool stuff.... Kenwood 600watt bridged down to 2ohm on an old skool Comp VR.

Hey bass master, do you have any pics of your truck? Or with your System or whatever in it? And theklown, are you saying that it would be better if I just got one sub? Just like one 12" sub? And the diamond amp to go with it? And for a head unit, I really have not looked into them much. I was just going to look at like walmart or something LOL for something a little better than OEM. But does the head unit play a big role in the way everything sounds? Sorry for all the noob questions, I am still learning on this topic. And were could I get some kind of dimensions for building a box?

Yea, I figured it was also going to be a tight fit with a single cab. Which I dont really mind pulling the seat up a little bit because I am pretty short already ( 5'7). Also, a friend of mine has a 94 white single cab GMC and when he bought it, it already had two 8's behind the seat and some kind of amp (sorry, dont know the watts) and he has a JVC head unit. Like I said, it was already in the truck when he bought it, but it doesnt sound that bad at all. I also dont really know they brand name of the subs but I will check it out this weekend when I see him.

Don't forget, you don't have a lot of room in a single cab truck. Boxes like that bandpass box in the Kicker deal, would not fit as far as I know.

I started out with Rockford Fosgate P1's on a 400 watt Rockford amp, and an Alpine head unit and stock speakers. That was fairly loud to the un-trained ear. If you just want a system for the attention you'll get, that ought to work, since most high school girls are used to old stock stereos.

But I got bored with it, and replaced it with 2 Kicker Comp VX's, to an 1800 watt amp, Alpine Type-R front door speakers, Alpine Type-S rear door speakers, those to a 400 watt Rockford Amp. Its running on a better Alpine head unit now.

The subs reside in a ported OBCON box under my rear seat, since I've got an extended cab. It does the trick, but I've broken two of them with the Kickers, and then I finally braced it.

For you, I'd say some Kicker Comp VR's like the ones in the eBay link, and a good amp to match it. If you want, you can get into door speakers and speaker amps right away, but I'd just run the speakers off the head unit to start. Cheaper, and it gives you stuff to work for in the future.

IMO, one sub is the better alternative for a reg. cab. Also, we'd be able to help much more if you could fill us in with some basic info. Stuff like what year your truck is, and what your goal is. Are you wanting loud or are you wanting a good sound, because those two don't necesarrily go hand-in-hand, and especially at the low-budget end.

As far as the dimensions for a box, just measure it up. Set the seat as far forward as you can stand, and then go from there. Once you've figure out the space you have to work with, then you will have a better idea of what sub(s) you can run, due to your airspace restrictions.

The current option I'm running is a 10" Dayton HO ($110 from PE) in a 1.1 cubic foot sealed enclosure (I made using MDF + fiberglass) which goes in between my dash, and my split bench seat. Unfortunately, I'm unhappy with the sound, due to the fact that I cheaped out and bought a cheap amp to drive it, yet it still gets plenty loud for my tastes, and has a ton more SQ than my CVR (12"), and plays nearly as loud.

I know the feeling of getting the jitters, and then getting over-anxious to get something (or more appropriate, anything). Your best option will be to go peice by peice... research it, then get what fits your budget.

I know that I have not even got my truck but I have some money and once I get it I plan to do some things to it. The goal for me is I just want something that sounds good and doesnt cost me an arm and a leg. I race so the majority of my money has to go towards that. As for the sound, I just want some good quality. The music I listen to (if it matters) is some rock and rap. So I want something that can hit hard but if I turn the bass down some rock will sound good.
A friend of mine has a z71 ext cab and he has two 10" kickers cvr or whatever and I dont know what kind of amp he has but it sounds good if your listening to rock or if you turn the bass up and listen to some rap.
