Current Question... Quck One...

Hey guys... I have an Alpine MRV F545 4 Channel Amp running in 3 Channel Mode... Once in a while it will cut its self off (Protect) mode and show "CUR" on the display... Alpine says its getting TOO Much Current... What Causes this?

Its Running Alpine Type S components and and a Type R at 4Ohms...

It could mean that its going into protect from a short. Check all of your wiring (power and ground connections) and make sure your fuse is rated for the size wiring you are using.

What I thought... Guess its time to upgrade the 3 year old ghetto wiring then huh...

Could the Fuse be it? Im running 4Ga with an 80 Amp...

When my New Woofer amp gets here on Tuesday Ill rewire everything and see what happens...

Usually you should never need to replace the wiring. Granted, you would have needed to do a sufficienct job the first time you wired your system. Did you use all new wiring or did you re-use the stock wiring?

Ok, I wired the truck when I was ghetto... Wired the Amp to the stock wiring at the head unit which from there goes to the stock wiring to the doors...

Since I'll be getting an amp to power my Woofers since I have 2 now instead of 1, The 4 Channel amp will be used to power my Mids and Highs with their own channels each... Im going to be running all new wiring to the doors directly from the amp to the mids and highs...

So, another question, Will I need to Upgrade the 4 GA to power my 1000 watt RMS M1005 and my 75 Watt RMS x4 545 to 0 GA and do a 4 Ga Distro Block?

You know how it is when your 16 and have a pair of Sonys and a Koiiler Amp... lol

Hopefully this new setup will last for a while before I want something else...

I would really consider running new wiring this time. So from the headunit run your RCAs to the amp(s). From the amps run 16 gauge speaker wire (KnuKonceptz is economical enough) to your mids/tweets. Then run 12 gauge to your sub from the sub amp.

When you say you want to run the mids and tweets with their own channel from the amp, are you going to run them actively filtered via the amp's onboard crossover? Or do you mean you are running 2 pairs of 2-way component sets off of the Alpine?

No, your 4 gauge power wire should be sufficient enough. But its always nice to use a distro block when doing multiple amps anyway. They are relatively cheap enough and the fused ones are a great way to keep the wires protected. You can usually get the combo blocks that have power and ground connections (the ground side is not fused), keeping things well organized and neat. Like this one:

Yeah, Im only running a front stage so my Tweets will run off Channels 1 and 2 and my Mids off Channels 3 and 4...

So your saying Running one Strand of 4 Ga to a Distro Block and then Running 4 GA again to the amps is fine? I dont want to run 8 Ga to the amps from the distro block...

So you plan on using the amp's onboard xovers correct. What frequency points do you plan on using?

I ran 4 gauge to a distro block then out with a set of 4 gauge to my DLS A3s with no problems whatsoever.
