Need help choosing....

I have a 2003 extended cab silverado(4 doors though) with only the 4 speakers (each door) I'm looking to upgrade from my stock stereo. I'm lost when it comes to audio systems though. I installed an aftermarket deck on my old 92' but that's as much as I've ever done. I was thinking about just getting a basic system because I have a newborn and don't want too much. I was thinking just a head unit and 4 new speakers. No subs. What speakers would be the best though? I do want some bass to come from the front doors. I was looking at some alpine or pioneer headunits that range from 300-400 dollars. What are component speakers and would they work for what I'm wanting? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

No one yet? Hmmm. Here's a list of stuff I'm considering so far:

Headunit is a Pioneer P6900UB
Component Speakers are the Alpine SPR-17S running 110 RMS at 4 ohms
Amplifier I was thinking the Sony Xplod XM-1252GTR running 125 RMS at 4 ohms.

After searching, I'll probably just leave my rear 6x9's stock and run them off the headunit. Just have the amp for the components. Does that setup sound like it would work out ok? How about wiring or sound deadener?

h/u choice is fine, speakers you should really go and listen too, and the amplifier wouldn't be my first choice. Lay out a budget and goals and we can help better. Disconnecting the rears/leaving them stock is a much better idea than wasting money upgrading them. Since you don't want to run a sub deadening your doors in particular will be helpful at getting some bass response from your front components.

That's what I wanted to hear. I'll definately be deadening the doors since I won't have a sub. I like the components of the h/u that's why I chose that one. But I'm completely lost when it comes to good speakers and amps. I don't really have a budget, but not looking to spend an extreme amount on this system. What would your recommendation be as for some components and a amp to power them only? I listen to a wide variety of music including rap, hip-hop, and... country...hah... Any help is appreciated!

Go listen to some things and describe whta you like and what you don't. What I like may not make your ears happy :)

That's going to be hard because there's not really any good audio places where I live. Pretty rural area up here in northern cali. That's why I was trying to stick with known brands. I guess I'll just keeping researching and reading up on things.

Without listening to anything it is really a crapshoot. I may have what I consider a "gold standard" and you might hate them. Speakers are really personal as are the response curves associated with installs. People who are quick to offer solutions without asking good questions most likely have no background and are just trying to justify their own decisions. Be very wary of recommendations without a real personal feel. Personally without you at least listing some things you like I won't even respond with recommendations. If you threw out things you were looking at they might get comments, but you are really WAY better off to describe what you like or don't.

This is about the best "system" I've ever had

Old Kenwood H/U, 2 amps (don't remember brand), fuse block, and 1 12" JL sub. The only thing I put in was the sub. Bought the vehicle with the rest. I'm not an audio expert so bare with me. As far as what I like: I'm not even sure what to say. I want a component speaker that I don't have to worry about blowing. I only want to run about 100-120 RMS to it. I mainly listen to rap so I guess I want something that has decent bass, but at the same time not distorting the voice too much. (Like that JL sub did)

List some things you would want to know in order to help me choose the right one for me. I'll try to get by some places and listen to what they have, but it won't be much I'm sure. Where I bought that JL sub from, they had a "wall" of only like 5 H/U's playing into a couple of speakers. I think BestBuy has a better selection to choose from them most audio stores around where I live. (And the nearest BestBuy is like 2 hours away) Thank you
