    Where is the best place to find fiberglass matting, resin, and hardener. I'm looking for a local places, and does anyone know how to mix it. I mean how much hardener for units of resin? And also does anyone know where to find the spray on fiber glass used for boats I'm getting some ideas and want to give it a test run. Thanks guys.

    You can order stuff from www.uscomposites.com. I've found them to have the best prices and best quality stuff.

    As far as the spray on stuff goes I wouldn't even mess with it because it's so messy and you can't control it like you can paint. YOu will get fiberglass resin everywhere and on everything...not to mention needing the right equipment. A regular spray gun will not spray enough material to do anything worthwhile...stick to hand lay up..it's much easier to control and work with.

    thanks guys....no...the reason why i was asking about the spray is because after i construct my console, i'll probably take it out and spray it with fiberglass so that i can paint it. I was just wondering where i can buy it. I'm going to be expirementing, and since i do all the work on my ride myself, i better start learning. it doesn't look like it would be all that hard, just need the practice.

    the sprayable fiberglass...it's the stuff they put on the wood of boats...i don't believe it's a primer...i believe it's an actual fiberglass.

    they do make sprayable fiberglass, but it is not good at all
    it is hard to get a good consistency, etc
    i'd stay away from it, its something like chopped strand, stay away i would

    Some help

    My experiences with fiberglass are as follows;
    The resin and hardener when mixed create a chemical reaction the more hardner you put in the faster it sets be careful it will smoke if you mix to much it will take a lot of hardner to do thids though.

    And if you are makin a speaker pod or a console I like to use sweat shirt material or speaker grille cloth avalible at the fabric store big peices i like to use the sweatshirt material and small or cuvey stuff I use the speaker grille cloth and just stretch it over the skeleton you made and then soak the material in the resin and let dry. I use throw away 2" paint brushes to apply resin.

    Another peice of advise is if you want to mold something it is wise to use fiberglass cloth it is woven. and will lay better around curves and sharp edges. fiberglass matting is like plywood a bunch of pieces pressed together once you have made the "shell then you want to build durability or thickness this is where the matting comes into play it is good for building thickness. then once you have your peice all cured you can sand it smooth and then use a plastic filler to cover imperfections then primer and paint as you wish.

    you can be very creative with fiberglass resin!!!!
    it is a beautiful thing. I buy my materials at the local paint store

    Sorry for the long post but fiberglass is wonderful.
