    when i hooked up the amp today and it comes on, the light is green for a sec and then turns red and stays red, the subs just rattle lightly and the sound is very distorted while the song is playing.. whats the problem??? thanks

    I'm not a 100%, but it sounds like a power problem. The amp is not getting enough power to push the subs well or cleanly. The red led is the amps "problem" light. Check all connections. Especially at the battery. A little corrosion can cause a lot of problems.
    It could always be worse...

    Follow your 12v power, ground, and remote turn-on wires are connected properly and are not contacting anything metal that would cause them to arc.

    You will also want to follow the wires to your speakers/subs and make sure they do not connect with one another at any point in the length of the wire.
    Also look at the terminals on you amp and make sure there aren't stray strands of wire going from one to another.

    The red light you mentioned sounds like the amp is going into "protection" mode. Either that or it is clipping.

    If all your wires are fine then try turning the gain down or check the settings of your head-unit assuming you are using one.
