I have a 2005 Silvy. Specs of what I am running: I've got 4 aux off road lights 100watt bulbs (if that helps) and running about 3k watts in amps. I don't know what the draw of everything is on the electrical system. I replaced my stock battery with a red top and did the big 3 shortly after adding the system due to the stock battery completely draining. Here lately (past few months) the truck has been dying. It used to not start if it sat for 2 days or so now it wont start if it sits for more than about 8 hours. I went through and checked all my grounds I even completely disconnected my amps for the time being. What do ya know I walk out there just now after its been sitting over night and its dead again. I'd like to do a HO alternator and in time would like to run a dual battery setup with an isolator. But for now I just need to know where to pick up a good HO alt. Or any other ideas you guys may have on what would be causing this.

    Re: Altenator

** amps x voltage = watts ** so therefore ** amps = watts/voltage ** so take your total auxilary wattage and divide it operating voltage which is proabably around 14V, and you will get the amperage you will be sucking up at full potenial of everything. Then just add that amperage to your stock alternator, lets say you got 200amps, so you add that to your stock alternator amperage of maybe 105 amps, and you get your grand total of 305 amps, so i would say a 300 amp alt would be good. Make sure to take the RMS wattage of your amplifier tho. Another way to figure out the amperage that your amp/ amplifiers take up is look at the fuses, if you see 3 40 amps well your amp may is capable of 120 amps. Hope that helps
