Sorry, my last thread screwed up on me. I have a 02 rcss with the stock radio and speakers that are starting to go out on me. Ive been looking at getting a new deck and speakers and i had a few ?'s. Im looking at the pioneer deh-6000 deck, what do you guys think about it? Also, im wanting to put in a new set of components up front, but i dont know anything about them and which ones are good. My budget for the speakers is around $150. In the future, im most likely gonna put in 2 10's and a good amp, but deck and speakers are first. I want some good, tight bass, but overall clarity and clearness is most important. I listen to pretty much everything btw. Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

pretty much any mid to high grade HU from pioneer, alpine, or eclipse is good stuff. just look for the features you want. I prefer the Alpines Ipod controls but Pioneer is getting better.

i would take your money and put it where you will see the most gains. deaden your doors first and then save up a little bit and get into components, your going to need to send more power than what the HU has to offer anyway so IMO do the components and amp at the same time.

Unless your stock speakers are blown, you will notice pretty much no difference with just replacing the speakers.

Going to a new HU helps with sound quality a lot, I know I was amazed with how much an Alpine CDA-9856 cleaned up the sound from my stock speakers. When I put a set of Alpine Type-R coaxials in place of the stock speakers, there was no difference.

Unless they're blown, rock your stock speakers on your new HU, and replace those with components if/when you put an amp on your speakers. Stock speakers on a custom HU with an amp and sub will sound just fine.

so just do the new HU for now, then do the speakers, amp, subs all at once? what are some good choices for subs, amp, and speakers? also, are there any good sites to buy a box from? thanks. btw, my budget for the amps, subs, speakers will be $500-600. is that too cheap?

Unless you're planning on running your speakers and subs all on one amp, just get an amp and subs after the head unit.

You should be plenty happy with the sound of unamplified stock speakers and two 10's. Then when you just need something louder (it will happen), get a set of components and throw an amp on them.

So, Head Unit > Subs & Amp > Speakers & Amp

In an ideal budget build, you would be looking at something like this:

    1.) Deadening outer door skins.

    2.) New HU.

3.) New speakers. Proper install is key.

    4.) Deaden inner door skins.

5.) Wiring and high/mid amp. (possibly even a 4-channel amp, if budget permits, and huge bass isn't the goal)

    6.) Sub(s). And amp, if you didn't get a 4-channel in #5.

    7.) Additional deadening... Tweaking... Etc...

There is a term for running stock speakers and subs/amp: GHETTO.

Since your stockers are starting to give... I'd say HU and new components first. Deaden second. Amp/wiring third. And of course, sub(s) last.

^^^ What he said. With your doors properly deadened, and using quality components, you'll be surprised with the punch that your front stage can give you. Properly is the key word though. Look into deadening products from Raamaudio, Second Skin, Cascade audio, etc..
