Issue with Factory Radio - Only front speakers work - 99 Suburban

Here is the run down and the issues.

    1999 Chevy Suburban
    - Factory Radio with Tape
    - Single CD under the radio

    Issues:
I only have sound from the factory component speakers in the front doors.
No sound from the rear doors.
No sound from rear cargo area.

I occasionally will get some low crackly sound coming from JUST the rear cargo roof speakers, but it doesn't stay on. If I fade to front, the front continue to work, if I fade to rear, I get nothing.

This radio has a heat sink on one side and a fan in back.

I have done this for trouble shooting.
    - Tried an aftermarket speaker in the rear doors , no sound
    - Tried the factory CD/Radio I have from my 98' S10 and same symptoms, no rear speakers, only front. This radio had not fan mounted on it though, don't know the difference.
    - Took the after market Pioneer out of my S10, put it in the suburban and only front speakers will sound.

Does this truck have a factory amplifier somewhere that could have gone bad?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

I don't think it has a factory amplifier, but it sounds to me like there's a snagged wire somewhere and you're either a) shorting out, or b) just not completing a circuit.

Actually, the rear door speakers are powered by a factory amp, it should be underneath the front seat IIRC. The front speakers and cargo speakers are powered directly by the headunit.

My hunch is that the cargo roof speakers have simply died and just need to be replaced, try testing an aftermarket speaker on those. Not sure about the rear doors though.

I vaguely remember testing the rear speakers with aftermarkets about a year ago with no results, but will do that again.

I will also look under the seat for an amp, thank you.

So I guess I need to check the facotry amp then, I am not running an aftermart head deck right now so they should be working.

The amp is mounted under the seat, and under the carpet?
I don't see it visible, only see a lump that may have something under the carpet.

Well I didn't find an amp under the seat unless it is under the carpet?

Mine was on top of the carpet from the factory, the new carpet I ordered had a hump in it that size so I installed it under there

was this ever fixed? I have a 99 suburban doing the same thing. I dont have an amp under the seat, the only thing under my seats is a body control module.
I have an aftermarket head unit the wires have power at the radio but none at the plug for the doors.

Most of the time when someone installs an aftermarket head unit the rear door speakers do not work.
you need to connect the Pink wire in the trucks harness to the Remote wire on the Head unit. this will turn on the rear door speakers.

This was good info. I read this last week so I was tinkering with "MYHOE" today, and pulled out HU and saw that when I had my components put in up front last yr they cut the pink wire, why your guess is as good as mine but I reconnected and it makes an big A** differance. Retuned my sub and she sounding great for a sub and amp I owned for at least 9 yrs and HU is 5yrs. Thanks TribalVision.
