got my box done for my single 10" sub for under the back seat of my ecsb, it is a downfire design. Not happy with the sound. It is quite punchy and sounds good listening to rock and metal, but as far as rap or hip hop, it doesnt have that low rumbling BOOM i was expecting it to. I had this same sub and amp in my old REGULAR cab truck behind the seat in an even smaller box and it that low rumbly BOOM even in it..i expected it to do better in the extended cab being there is more space and the box is bigger..

    Re: wow, dissapointed

i've never liked the downfire boxes under the back seats in an ex cab... me and a friend ran identical setup's of the same 2 12's and same amp... his in a downfire box in an ex cab and mine made its way to a sealed then a ported box in the back of my old bronco, his was maybe 1/3 as loud/hard as mine in the sealed box and couldn't hold a candle to them in the ported box... if i trade my tahoe for a ex cab which i would like to i wanna go with 2 12's in a forward fire under seat box

Anyone have a picture of a sub box that would fit under the back seat of my NBS with the seat still usable?

Down fire sucks, thats all there is to it. I had the same problem and quickly solved it with an upfire box instead.

My buddys 10" Mach 5 audio sub in his down fie box sounds damn good with 400 watts pushing it in his 06 ECSB.

I can guarantee that the airspace isnt enough. Downfires sound TERRIBLE if the sub and airspace doesnt match up. I would say thats your problem.

Can you give us more details on the sub, and amp or anything else that might have changed? it could be a matter of the difference in cab sizes, or the box itself...

I just helped a friend put 2 Kicker 10" CVT's into a down fire box under the back his 2004 F150, pushing with a 1500W mono block, and that thing pounds!!!
it doesn't matter if its rock or rap...it sounds amazing! its crisp, clear and booms

    Re: wow, dissapointed

The sub is a 10 inch old school mtx blue thunder, the spec sheet for it calls for 1/2 to 1 cft of air space. I have built a box that is modeled after this boxhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/280778649608?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p398 4.m1438.l2649

Now, the box this sub was in when it was in my old single cab truck was even smaller and it still boomed quite good! Its got to be because its downfiring is all i can figure. on rock and country the bass drum hits real punchy and sounds great, just no low rumble on the rap type stuff..heck, i would try porting it but not sure where to put the port and how long to make it or any of that, ive always built sealed boxes.

I was thinking of doing a downfire box under my rear seat, but I am not sure I want to now.

What kind of box did he use? Was it pre-built, or did he make it? This definitely sounds like what I am looking for, but for a 1997 Silverado Extended Cab.
