So had my first Db run this weekend. It was 101 degrees outside and my externally regulated alternator which can do 16 volts was only putting out a constant 12.1 volts...but i was kinda disapointed in my db score of 142.5....my box is not made for db at all though. It is esentially only 3 10's the way its setup (hard to explain)...a very "SQ" box... and everyone was hitting low db scores that day...anyways... heres the changes

New Box...3 Image Dynamics IDMAX 12's...another alpine 1507 (one for each sub)...and 2 more Optima Yellow Top Batteries... Basically same look as the box I have now...but not ported...it still have the plexi idea incorportated...but instead of seeing 3 more subs like you do now...you'll see the IDMAXs badass magnets... with a buncha neon...oh yeah...box is going to be reversed...so when you look in back hatch you see window of the box with magnets and when you fold down seat you'll see subs...What do yall think of my plan...tired of having just a truck taht sounds great but hits "decent"...i think what I have will push 144 db on a good day... but...I want something where it both sounds great and can kill you if you sit in the car too long..hehe..

New amp will be in the new top pieces of my setup im building under plexi and on lexan like the rest of them..but its all gonna be alot more curvy and wrapped in matching vinyl...

I was listenin to my stereo earlier...i mean...not to brag but you could put on an AM radio station and it would sound alot better than alot of guys "systems" but the problem...is I'm never satisfied with it...I've sat in the loudest truck in the world..and the best sounding car in the world...literally...at world finals... and its just...i dunno..everyday..i wanna start over from scratch..but at the same time...i need to know when enough is enough...my wallet is running dry...and im tryin to get back to being broke (in debt)... Anyone know a loan shark in the houston area?..haha...this project might be delayed b/c of a top secret purchase that might be happening very very soon...ill keep yall posted....this is soooo playa....haha...updated pics will be up very soon..last weekend we made a new fuse box under the hood outa lexan and plexi..its freaaakin baddd asssss...soo..ill let yall know...

One question? Why would you not port the IDMAX 12s? My recommendation for a daily driver/competition vehicle, would be to ideally tune to around 37hz, keeping its ability to hit the lows and still score well on a meter. Yes, tuning is quite dependant on the vehicle, but I am just generalizing. You will not get a good score with 3 sealed 12s in a tahoe..period. I have personally installed ID MAx's and I would recommend 2.75-3 cubes ported per sub for the loudest spl, while still sounding good.

I have had quite a few setups in my truck, but its very hard to get a good sounding setup that scores well. Most of the time I have port plugs for daily use where it tunes the subs down to the low 30s for street driving, and when the port is pulled out, you get more vent area and a higher tuning (dependant on variables) that will get you a higher score. For example, one of my last setups in the cut-through was 2 Cerwin Vega Stroker 18s in a 12 cube box being pushed by 4 crossfire BMF 1000d's (6000 watts total). I had a plug that tuned them to 31hz for when I was driving the truck in town. The subs sounded great and got down really low. On a certified termlab (before new mic change) the strokers would do a 152.3 at 31hz (damn loud), but when the plug was pulled and the vent area was increased to 220sq in and tuned to 42hz, it did a 157.8. This was in a no wall setup also.

    Just my 2 cents...

I hear ya on the port issue. My box right now is ported at 40hz. We're really specific in using the correct air space and program to figure out the exact port size. Will Ad**** (won world finals expert IASCA) is the one who always helps us with our calculations. I know alllll the big ballers with big scores port. The reason I don't wanna port this box is b/c of some advice from Matt Bogart and Jim Putnam. Bogart is the head designer at Image; and Putnam owns their old show vehicle. They both say porting Image subs is a good idea; but having the right airspace in a sealed box is a better idea. I don't know their reasoning. No one understands why. They say if its Image; especially IDMAX; to make it big and seal it up. Everyone I know with Image subs ported (a tonnn of people) always have ports that will "whistle" on the wrong notes. For some reason every sub besides Image (excluding the new V3 subs which are freakin baddd) should be sealed. My roomates box (4 12's in a Denali with a JL 500/1 per pair) is ported. He's not hitting the scores he should. He's gonna seal it up next week. I'll post the difference in the scores. His port is perfect on specs to.

Just curious, but what size box are you running the 6 10s in now ported? Are you going by the id specs of the subs, or by what your friends are telling you?

For spl, ths specs that id gives you aren't worth anything. They are just trying to give you a sql box which is suppossed to be the best of both worlds. Is the problem that you dont have the airspace to go big ported or what? I am very interested to see the scores where the sealed is higher than a correct spl box for ported (with ANY woofer).

Yeah Image's specs are definitly a good compromise. They use a program that does all kinds of curves with different ports and whatnots. If you look at my box its kinda funky. They are isobercially mounted/compound loaded subs. It doesnt hit as loud as 6 10's should...but definitly hits lower than any 10's ive ever heard...ill post some scores for the 4 12's as soon as he seals it up. He's makin some wicked kicks for it right now. its a pretty crazy setup..motorized amp rack and whatnot...very classy truck..ill try and get yall some pics too..

Your car sounded great at the show man, it was just too hot oustide! I've never heard music light up like that, the horns are perfect and the subs put just enough bottom end in the music to let you feel it.

I really like the IDMAX subs, they will definetly go louder. As for before heatwave, if your pocketbook won't allow for it, don't worry about SPL at heatwave, just go all out SQ(which you've got and it's perfect)

I'm busy trying to get an order off for a 500/1 and 2 12" ID v3's -- can't wait... after that it's saving for components time.

btw. What car did that Carlos guy have at the show? He won like 20 awards, it was crazy.

And what was the cd you were using when showing Fred the system?

    peace-
