sounds like you are overheating the voice coils.. They shouldnt have a problem running off that amp. you probably just have the gains set too high on the amp...

Just finished my downfire box for 2 L7 12's and im running them off an Arc Audio 1500 DR. I had L7's in my previous truck and loved them, but could this amp be too much power? I know it sounds ridiculous, but when i run them for about 5 minutes on some serious bass songs, they smell like that burning speaker smell. They sound awesome and i honestly couldnt ask for more, but the smell just doesnt seem right. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Matt
Thanks....ill give that a try first...

Could the smell come from the break in process? a little dust on the coils?
That is a sweet amp (I'm either looking for the 1500 or the 2500), but I don't think the L7's will have any trouble handling the power.
Jack- I will work on some pics, but dont have any at this time. I decided to make the box completely out of wood rather than messing with fiberglass. Based on past experience the glass would have been easier but the mdf does fine. Its not too bad as it only sticks out from the seat about an inch, with a little more in the corners where the seat turns back. The subs have in the back a 1.5 inch gap to hit, and in front a 2.25 with all the air being forced to the front. My setup for now consists of the Arc 1500 to the 2 L7 12's. And an Arc 2100 to two copmponent sets. A 6.5 in the front and a 5.25 in the back. I also have an Alumapro 5 farad Cap, which i most likely will be selling. In the next week or so ill be running 2 yellow tops with 1/0 all the way back, and dynamat the roof because it flews like crazy. I just ripped out my crossfire vr1000d and the box for four tens i had in there. If you know anyone who wants the amp let me know. Or maybe even the box. Ill work on some pics in the next couple days. Later

sounds good matt...i'm patiently waiting...i don't really know of anyone in need of the amp or the speakers/box, but if i hear anyone talking, i'll put in a good word
