My boss told me of a guy who wants to make room in his garage, and wants to sell his 50 chevy pickup. It is all torn apart, but everything is there except a motor and fuel tank. he wants 900, but will settle for 800 cash. it was being preped for restore, and has almost no rust. not a bad deal i think. but my problem is this..... do i eat up my savings or kick myself in the arse everyday till i die because i passed on the deal?

it will never go down in value. when i bought my 66 chevelle for 2500 back in 1989, had to get rid of it in 1992. if i would have finished restoring it,I couldve got 25000 for it now.

You're not kidding. The '66 Chevelle is my dream car. Even un-restored '66 Chevelles are overpriced if you can find one. I've been looking. Ended up settling on a '57 Chevy pickup for $700.

I say buy the truck. Good bodys un-restored are getting harder & harder to find. My only advice is to sell that truck (if it's still un-restored) before you buy something else you gotta have. You don't want a yard full of valuable gems just rotting away.

see what kind of parts are even availible real quick on the internet. Check for grills and see if availible. If supported then it sounds like a good deal.

That's what resto shops on the internet specialize in. They sell parts for cars from like 1930 and up. I would check out

Might not be a bad deal, but when you buy a dissasembled vehicle the parts are NEVER all there.
No matter what the guy says, some stuff....well...a lot of stuff...will be missing.

Re: To Buy or Not To Buy

i think its a good deal. i plan on looking at it tward the end of the week. i just talked to the guy and he says he has extra parts also. if parts are missing i think i could ask him if he has them at a later date and still get them if he has em. we shall see when i check it out. but my boss and this guy both said the parts are all there. sounds good so far. the guy says it has a dent in one rear fender. has a ford 9 inch and 4 link without springs. but i will look at it and make up my mind.....

    Buy it.

If you find the project is overwhelming for some reason or another, part it out and make some $$

Only buy it if a '50 is really what you want. You will be buying into a HUGE project, and you will never finish it unless you have a passion for the vehicle.
