An easy way to check the motors is to try moving the windows with the dome light on. If it dims then you know that power and ground are getting to the motors, if not you'll have to check the wiring.

Well my buddy's trying to get his old '87 Jimmy road-ready again and we're trying to get the power windows working right now. Basically neither side rolls down or even makes a sound when the switch is pressed. Before we put in new motors, are there any relays or any possible trouble spots we should look for before starting the job?

you mean by using the switch or by trying to push the window down?Originally Posted by VEGAS84
With the switch. Just for a second though or you'll pop the circuit breaker.

Check your self resetting circuit breaker, it plugs into the fuse box. It will be silver and a little wider than the fuses and about the thickness of 2 fuses.
Is it near the bottom of the fusebox? There's an empty hole there that says something about power windows but we've checked all the fuses. He claims the windows ran before but he doesn't remember if there was ever a breaker there or not.Originally Posted by 00slammed 1500
It's been a while since I worked on one of them but that sounds right. I would invest in a Chiltons manual, they have really good wiring schematics.
We have the hayne's manual for it but it shows nothing for power windows in the wiring schematics
The circuit breaker should be in position 23 on the fuse panel. Did you try them with the dome light on?

make sure you drill a hole and run abolt though before you remove the motor its spring load is strong
make sure that the breaker wire is connected to the fuse box as slammed 1500 mentioned. if its not connected then they won't get any power!
