I didnt buff mine but I wanted to. Didnt for the same reason as you, i hate buff swirls and I dont have the experience with a buffer to feel comfortable buffin my truck. The Scratch X worked like a charm! Mine werent deep scratches, just some branch marks down the passenger side.
mine are pretty bad, thats why i was considering the whole new paint job, and i would like some metal flakes in the paint i think it would look pretty b.a.

I hear ya. Well in that case i would go to a body shop and get a quote on gettin the paint cleaned up and gettin the truck painted. I wanna do black with purple metal flake on my truck. My mom had an 89 Camaro like that and it was fckin sick!
i was thinking black paint with normal chrome metal shavings

you can try wet sanding with 2500 grit just be careful you don't sand threw the clear coat

If your thumb nail gets caught in the scratch when you run your hand over it you will need wetsanding and touch up paint. If it does not get caught it can be removed with a rotary and the correct product. Clay bars will not remove scratches, only clean any dirt or scuffs in the scratch to make them appear better.
Black Is really a really tough color to repair,If the paint has lots of deep scratches I wouldn't bother wet sanding and buffing it would be a waste of time and money,On the other hand Paying someone to Paint your truck is very expensive. If you were ambitious and had an air compressor and a halfast Finish Sprayer I'd wet sand it and put a single stage system on it,for about $300-$400 you could fix your Paint problem and gain some exp in the paint area instead of paying 3-5 Thousand on a decent paint job.Ive seen the maaco/earl schieb jobs and personally Id rather have a scratched up truck LOL
