    I have a 98 GMC 3500 with a 6.5.

It is hard to start on cold days. The "wait to start" light comes on as soon as you turn on the key and stays on for 5 -10 seconds BUT then it flashes on and off very slowly for another 10 seconds or so.

    Is the flashing normal ?

Also, would new glow plugs help with the cold starting ? It will not start when it gets down around 25 degrees, but will start quickly with the block heater plugged in.

It's my first diesel, so I have a lot to learn.

That flashing is normal for your truck.

How old are the glowplugs? If you can't remember/don't know, then it might be time to pull them and test them....if you are going to replace them, use only AC Delco 60Gs or Bosch Duraterm plugs (I recommend the Bosch plugs)....anything else will leave you stranded....

    Thanks Chris,

    Sounds like good advice.

    I'll get it done.

What do you mean by it won't start down around 25 degrees? Is this 25F or 25C? Either way, that's much too warm for a 6.5 to not start, especially if it's C.

Our 150,000 mile 6.5 started in 14 degrees F the other day but i had to put my foot on the accelerator a little bit so it would stay running.
