    Unanswered: 1996 GMC 1500 6.5 check engine light

    My truck keeps setting code po236 changed vacuum lines boost sensor and vacumm pump. when u step on it it rolls coal wicked why does this light keep coming on? the turbo works then some times it doesnt when the light comes on the turbo stops boosting i cant figure out the problem

    Boost solenoid.

    Remove the vac pump because they have a tendency to seize up. Also remove the stock waste-gate actuator for a mechanical (spring operated) one. You be happier with the more dependable mechanical vs stock setup. Set at 10-12# under full load for boost.

    No. It's above the valve cover on the driver side. Being a 1500, there will also be two EGR solenoids there. The boost solenoid is the front most of the three.

    I will never put a spring in place of one of the vacuum system on these engines, ever, nor will I ever suggest anyone else do it.

    there is nothing wrong with doing it. wutta u gonna do when the vac pump craps out an throws the belt? no u have no power breaks,no cooling, or alt.

    The stock system is prone to the plastic tubes breaking, vacuum pumps seizing up and blowing belts, solenoids failing and opening the waste gate prematurely resulting in poor performance, thus uttering one reason people under-rate these trucks and want a Cummins or dmax.

    Never saw a vacuum pump lock up, usually a failure to pull vacuum , the vacuum system is a very poor design, check all the vacuum tubes and hoses.

    both mine an my g/f's did.belt jus started squealin outta no where an poped the hood an seen the vac pump pulley bouncein back an forth
