    Hey guys,

Im looking at a 97 GMC 2500 that has a 6.5L Turbo/Auto in it. The truck has 144K miles on it. I've owned many OBS truck, but never a Diesel. What would be some of the things to look for on this truck? It looks great body wise, just wondering on the engine. I've driven them before, but never owned one.

    Thanks

    This!

Also make sure the starter is spinning fast (should crank the engine right up), take the truck out for a test drive, get it up to operating temperature and when you finish, shut it off and try starting it in a few minutes. if it cranks over like it was nothing than the IP isn't about to die, but is no way to indicate how much life is left in it.

Look for blue, black or excessive grey/dark grey smoke. Look for bubbles in the coolant, plus coolant condition as well. Otherwise, just make sure it runs and drives to your satisfaction like you would any other vehicle. These engines can last forever if taken care of so mileage isn't a huge issue.

Just drove it. Ran great, shifted fine, and has a rock solid body. No smoking during startup. Good deal?
