I would think it would work.Like a Pac break. It won't use any extra fuel.It is just a butterfly valve in the exhaust.

Kinda.
"A compression release engine brake, frequently called a Jake brake or Jacobs brake, is an engine braking mechanism installed on some diesel engines. When activated, it opens exhaust valves in the cylinders after the compression cycle, releasing the compressed air trapped in the cylinders, and slowing the vehicle."
Where as the pac brake setup is just a flap in the exhaust to hold air back.

They do....
(produce power from fuel to turn a crank shaft)
Notice the root word in diesel engine and gas engine is engine thats because they both perform the function of an engine.
Jake brakes and Pac brakes are both engine brakes which funtion to provide deceleration or (braking) action via the engine transmitted through the driveline.

so i gather an exhaust brake isn't something people go crazy over. i suppose it helps on preventing wear on the brakes, but they are there for a reason and city driving isn't a good application for it.

No chit they do the same thing, suck down fuel pump air and spin a crank, does that make them the same thing? No. Fill both your dmaxes up with 87octane unleaded if they are the same as gasser.
Fugg it, trade your Dmax on a ford ranger, cus they are the same, both trucks.![]()
WOW your internet dick must be huge man!!!!
A guy uses "jake brake" as slang for engine brake, and someone goes "NO THEY R WAY DIFFERENT DUMMY"
Just pointing out they do essentially the same thing "perform the same function." You could call disk brakes and jake brakes completely different....
You have almost woman-like skill to twist words "Jake breaks and Pac breaks perform the same funtion" into "Diesel=gas, Ranger=HD, derp derp." All while being pissy and bitchy. Heck if you could handle the stove and washing machine you might make a good wife someday.
As a parting shot, Ford Rangers and 2500HD Diesels DO perform the same funtions. The Duramax just does iton a larger scale, burning a less volatile band of petroleum distillates.
