ok, so im thinking about getting a project car that will most likely need paint but i wouldnt want to spend more then maybe 1k. I was just searching and i found this place that looks to be decent cheap work. It has primer, 3 coats of paint and 1 clear coat for only $199. I dont want a show car or anything, but if it turns out like all there pics that looks damn nice if you ask me....LMK what yall think.

you get what you pay for when it comes to paint...

Expect to spend a little over 2 grand just for a nice paint job, not including body work.

a paint job for 200 bucks wont even last a year I bet, due to the inferior paint, and lack of prepwork.

I thought the prep work looked pretty decent for $200. Im mean sure they dont even remove the lights, but that can be done. And paint can always be purchased.

One coat fo clear. You will not be able to take out any orange peal that they put in. Also the car shown might be the best case. Typical might be much worse.

if it is just a decent paint job dont care about small runs or no shine and not to last very long then do it if not save your money i had a budy that took his truck to dallas not sure if he took it there or not but he had his done for 400 and it was painted but thats it it had no shine a few runs they do no body work they just paint so it still had dents but it did look like **** now it looks ok better but not good so you ake the decision but 200 dollars wont even buy the paint to do your car at the shop i paint at so think about that

it says on their page qualits work with no short cuts?! wtf do they call not removing lights or door handels those are good places for it to start peeling. but hey, I will be doing my own paint when I can find a beater to offroad. $200 in paint and I will do it myself. If you do ask them for 2 coats of color and 2 of clear one is just not enough

200 bucks for a paint job? sounds to me like maaco! pictures of paint jobs do no justice what so ever! you'd be better off to save back a bit more money and have it done the right way. if they prep the same way they show in the picture you can bet your goin to have peeling problems. if they dont even remove the headlights you know theyre cuttin more corners else where. as said above one coat of clear, you get any peel out, cant sand any dirt out, and better hope they dont get any runs! lol, thats my two cents on the subject. if you didnt live so far away id paint it for ya

Do a search for "How to paint" and you will run across a website that will send you a free pdf file on exactly how to paint and do all bodywork.

I posted and cited the article here a few minutes ago, evidently an admin erased it.

yeah you will need 2 mainly 3 coats of clear for a good base to sand and buff and sand it with 320 then go over that wet sanding with 600 then use paint prep grease remover then tact it off with a tact rag and start spraying

I've seen a BMW that prepped with a scotch brite pad then painted. it came to the shop for a bumper and while the detail guys were cleaning it they rubbed the paint and clear right off of it. definately the base for a good paint job is the proper prep work.
