What do you use for pickup cargo mgmt?

I'm trying to find something to use in Silverado. Ideally i'd like to have something that allows me to use a net for hauling loose crap, and then something like the pac mule to manage luggage and heavier items.

I see Chevy has something for the 2007, but it doesn't look like it will fit into a 2005 short bed like mine.

Any suggestions?

Well, since my paint has seen better days anyways, I always just hooked my ratchet straps into my stake pockets.

Cheapest solution, just put a hook in all 4 corners under the bed rails.

yeah, that is what i've been doing. i've got my bed and rails line-x'd, so the paint won't get dinged either way. :)

I have the pace edwards jackrabbit tonno cover with the explorer series rails that are compatible with thule components.

the cover is retractible/waterproof/lockable. i now mount bikes/skis/etc on the top (as you would use a luggage rack on an SUV)

as for the bed of the truck, i have one of those $80 rubber bed mats. then i use pull straps or a cargo bar to seperate/hold things in place. I have a heavy duty duffle back in the bed that holds some tools/tow straps/etc.

thanks for the suggestion, but i haul my quad in the back almost every weekend, so i can't use a cover like that.

and the rails are removable- they take all of 30 seconds to put on and off. i guess the only problem with my cover and hauling a quad is because of our short bed.. the cover retracts into a box thats probably about 10" long in the front of the bed

yeah, that would be a problem for me. i put my gas cans and gear
in front of the quad, which sounds like the same spot where the cover goes?

the box is also elevated so there's storage underneath. i keep a 2-1/2 ton jack there and some tow straps.

what really sold me on the cover was the use of the thule accessories and its waterproof and lockable. i hated going on trips and worrying about someone stealing stuff from the bed of my truck

do you have a bed liner? I have one in my truck and there is a slot in the back that you can cut a 2x4 or 2x6 and it slides vertically into slots in the liner. That is what I did and I have a cargo net that I bought a Harbor Frieght. It hooks into the GM accessories flip down hooks that mount into the stake pockets. It works really good.

yeah, both the bed and rail caps are line-x'd (aka rhino liner). there are no slots in it though

if you wouldn't mind, that would be great to able to see what it looks like installed. i do need somewhere to put my hi lift, straps, etc. . :)

ok man here are some pics i took this morning. everythings a little wet cause i just washed it. you can see how i store the jack uder the cover compartment. i also have a crate back there that holds tow chains/ tow straps/ rachet straps/ etc. during the summer i usually keep a heavy duty duffle back there too with towls, tools, etc.

dood, you did a real nice job truck all the way around, it's very clean! i really like the way the cover and racks work together, and i'd love to be able to do something like that.

i talked to the boss (aka my wife) and she likes the idea, but is thinking some more along the lines of a soft top so we can still use space in the back, and potentially put the dogs in the back as well.

and if you're looking into soft tops- i highly recommend the extang full-tilt cover (this is what i had before my current set-up)

it rolls up like a normal soft top, lifts up like a hard top, and it can be removed/replaced on the truck in 1 unit (you don't ahve to take it apart). check it out- you won't be dissapointed

Your drain plug on your air tank should really be on the bottom so the water can drain out...horns im guesing...which ones did you get?

Your drain plug on your air tank should really be on the bottom so the water can drain out...horns im guesing...which ones did you get?

yea i couldn't mount the tank with the drain plug down. i JB-welded the bolts in there so i can easily pop the tank off in about 5 minutes to drain the water on occassion. the horns are a seige-engineering stage 2 kit. im not exactly sure which kit, but there are 3 trumpet horns in the set.. and they're really loud.


back onto topic... drick- yes that link you posted is the cover i had. when you said 'soft top' i was picturing a soft tonno cover... of which the fulltilt is the best because it has the most flexibility of use. I didn't even know the type you posted existed. seems like a good idea though.....
