I want to change the hood up on my 99 Sierra. I'm lookin to get either a 2500HD hood or a 2.5" cowl hood. I'm leanin toward the HD but idk yet. What you guys think, and also wheres the cheapest you've found em. Pics are very welcome also.
And if I do get one, do I have to/should I paint the underside

yeah, i think imma go HD, imma hit up some junk yards and see if they got anything, if not i found one on ebay

yeah, theres 4 or 5 truck around here with the cowl hood like i want and none (as far as i know) with an HD hood on a 1500, ill flip a coin
Cowl looks mean.
i think im going to have to go with the cowl hood, even though the HD hood would be sweet also

i say get the HD. They're simple and clean. Not to highjack but, will the hood off an 06 or 07 classic fit an 03-05 chevy

yup i know a few people that have done this and you do need to buy a newer grill...it suks but with the hd hood it comes out about an inch over the grill....
Chevelle SS style cowl hood. Never cared for the HD hood myself.
Don't you have to do some cutting/ reshaping of an HD hood to get it to fit over the GMC lights?

The front corners of the HD hood needs to be modified to fit your truck to clear the headlights. It's not a direct swap.

cowl hoods look much better on a GMC Sierra. I ove how they look, and IMO, look much better then an HD hood on your truck.
Now the other way around for a Silverado. HD hoods look better then a cowl for the 99-06/07 clasic.
As for painting the underside of the hood, do it, I did mine, the engines dont get hot enough to affect the paint.
