I've got a two-tone burgundy/tan '97 ECSB C1500 that used to be my daily driver. Poor thing has pretty much been sitting the past 2-3 years while I've been in college. Now, I'm looking at fixing what needs to be fixed so I can have a reliable street truck again when I need it. It needs some body work, fresh paint, and a little TLC here and there, but nothing major. My stepdad is an auto mechanic/bodyman with his own garage, so we can do all the body work/paint.

The truck already has clear front lenses, tinted windows, billet grille, debadged, flush bed cover and a 2" rear drop. I've got a weld-in rollpan that I plan to install as well. Long story short, I'm looking for some suggestions from you FSC guys on what exterior work to look at doing. Paint to match mirrors and door handles? Stubby antenna? Rollpan? Etc. I appreciate any input or opinions. Thanks.

If you dad can do the work how about a mild custom? You did not note a budget but how about a few things that will set you apart from the rest. These things do not cost much if you are doing the work yourself.

    Caddy tails
    shave antenna
    shaved door handles
    shaved gas filler
    shaved stake pockets
    shaved joint in cab roof
    painted front bumper
    smooth cowl

I guess I should have figured up a budget. That would help. Basically, I don't want to get too crazy with this truck. I want it to be simple and clean looking. I've looked through the FSC Galleries, and found a few that trucks that I like, and feel are in the same direction that I want to go. Hope it helps.

Do what you think will look good and work for you.
I will say one thing, I do not like shaved door handles because.

Every one tells me, you just need a remote door opener.
What happens when the bat dies?
    Backup button!
But you can't lock your truck.
    No one know's about it!
Well stupid if it's so easy to suggest how many cars with shaved door handles do you think have a back up?
    Um most of them.
So all you have to do it find it?
    Uh, yeah.
    Dumb A*&.

    Just my 2 cents though.

My back up switch requires a key to operate it.Which solves your above mentioned problems.

If you have a shop to do the work, the cheapest way to clean that thing up is shaving everything. The door handles and tailgate handles make a huge difference. And the cab seams.Seems like it wouldn't matter but it's amazing to me how much cleaner it looks without those.

To make your brainstorming a bit easier review some of the members gallery pics that have the same model truck as yours. This way you can see the mods and get a better idea on what looks well on your truck.

Looks like he's got covers that are painted to match.

Re: Ideas for exterior mods/body work?

Right now, I'm debating on the following:

    1. Paint the truck all burgundy or paint it back two-tone?
    2. Paint mirrors and handles same color as body, or go back black?
    3. Paintable front bumper, smoothie chrome, or factory bumper?

    Any opinions?
