What do yall think about doing Rhinoliner on the outside of the truck. I would be doing it from the lower bodyline down. So i would do the trim, bumpers and probably flares. Or I would do just the paint and leave the trim, bumpers and flares alone, which might look less cheesy. There are a good amount of pretty serious scratches below this bodyline and it would probably be pretty tough to match the paint if I just resprayed black. Thanks in advance.

I'v seen it done both ways, on the trim, bumpers and flares and just below the trim. Personally I like it below but not covering the trim. I would defenatly leave the trim and bumpers alone or else it would look trashy because there would be nothing to off set the color of the truck, it would all be black. As for the flares it really makes no difference, the color would remain the same so the only real difference there is the texture, the flares won't rust like the body becuse they are only plastic so its all apperance and wouldent really do anything

If you offroad often and want the protection, go for it. If you don't it will just look like chit

This is Herculiner, trim/moulding removed, and over the flares. You'll definately want to do the flares too, the texture change would stand out like a sore thumb.

Well that looks pretty damn good. Thank you for the link! I may lose the flares, herculine/rhinoline from the body line down, the plastic pieces on the bumper and trim but leave the chrome for contrast, and then do the bed while I'm at it.

Did you have to strip the paint completely or just scuff it?

I just scuffed it up. I used a mixture of scotch brite pads, and an orbital. It really doesnt matter as long as you rough it up so the Herc has something to grab on to. I also wiped it down with Acetone, twice, just for good measure.

Yeah that's what I'm starting to think. And the flat black and gloss black might look a little cheap. Might go to a body shop and get a quote on how much to buff/pull dents/fix scratches on the whole truck.

Well the herculiner goes on pretty thick it covers all your dents and scratches, which was the reason i did it haha

I did herculiner around 2-3 years ago. I would not recommend herculiner. I followed directions exactly. About a year in I redid and used uv protectant. It didn't help. The top flat parts of flares starts fading first then crumbles off. Then the more you clean which you have to use a brush on the herculiner it crumbles off more over time. My brother in law did his truck at the same time and had it rhinolined and it looks brand new still today.
For the price herculiner I guess is worth it but if you wash your truck and off road it or even live in a dusty road, you will be redoing it every year. Worst part is of you wax the truck then after first time washing it the residue runs down and streaks through the liner.

    Dead on ^
i have to repaint mine once every now and then too, i use two coats glossy black and then tons of uv protection. But once you go offroading its done, you can never completely clean all the dirt off... its great for when rocks hit you or you run over a little kid bc it wont scratch though.
It only takes me an hour to re paint it so i think its worth it, it just gives it a nice custom look.
And like true95 said rinoliner is the way to go but its a lot more expensive
Linex quoted me 1200 if it was already prepped and ready, which is more then my trucks whole paintjob coast me....
so im sure rino was around the same
    just my 2cents

LINE-X Premium (for black) or LINE-X Xtra (for colors other than black) is the way to go. Both hold their color and gloss, both are more durable than Herculiner or even Rhino.

Pics of entire exteriors with LINE-X. Some pics are not Chevy though.

That red Tacoma with the Line-X actually looks pretty decent. Is this similar to Rhinoliner or can you do it yourself? I know how to spray cars and have the equipment and compressors. Just need to be able to buy the chit.
