my buddy in college had a supra painted there. Maaco is cheap but you get what you pay for, and he wasn't really happy. I had never seen a paint job that made a car look like a giant maroon orange peel.

If you do get maaco, be sure to tell them to primer the car before they paint it.....nuff said

maaco and paint don't belong in the same sentence.....
Maaco is just a franchised store....It all depends on the people they have working for them. My brother in law had his truck painted at Maaco in Modesto Cali and I would have to say that truck looked brand new when they were finished!!!!

i guess you got lucky, all the Maaco paintjobs I have seen look like the paint was applied with a garden hose....![]()
They basically paint the whole car, and scrape the windows with a razor.
On rare occasion, I have seen nice jobs from them.

Maaco sucks. My Cavalier had just been painted there when I bought for my first car. First chance I had, I repainted it myself. Looks like they poured the paint into a shop vac and set it on reverse. The orange peel was awful. It had enough waves in it to make it look like you were looking at a class 5 hurricane passing over the Atlantic.
The *only* time I would EVER recommend a Maaco "paint" job is if you were looking to do something quick and dirty before selling it.
Agreed, I have seen good results that way.Originally Posted by Low88

This is a maaco job, about 4 years old now.

Maaco is fine as long as you know you are getting a cheap paintjob. If you are finicky or plan to keep the truck long term, I would stay away.

I've also heard that it depends on the franchise. Some put more care into their work that others. Like any paint shop, you need to check their references if you are that concerned about quality. If you can do the prep work yourself, I've heard that helps a great deal. But, no matter what, if you pay $500 for a paint job, you are going to get a $500 paint job... minimal masking, minimal prep (I wonder if they'd even wash it, let alone strip the wax off) and you'll get things like a body colored tailpipe.

Exactly. Just like some Pizza Hut's are better than others. It all depends on who is doing the work.Originally Posted by 93_200kChevy

I had my grandprix painted there. I will never goto maaco again. Ive seen more runs on that car than at a marathon. Also they charged me to take a door off to pop out a fender dent, all they did was bondo it. they didnt do any prep work, I dont even think they sanded it. After I got it back, all my molding went from black to white, the color of the car. There was alot of overspray in the wheel wells. It sucked monster balls. Never again.
