This is a discussion on can i convert my interior? within the Interior Tech forums, part of the General Discussion category; alright i have a 93 silverado with the whole bench seat thing goin on. i dont mind the dash all ...
alright i have a 93 silverado with the whole bench seat thing goin on. i dont mind the dash all THAT much but i like the 96's interior much much better. i was wondering if it would be difficult to mmmmmmm bascially find a 95-96 interior at a junkyard and replace my dash, and seats. i know it would take a long time to do but would it be hard??? anybody have any thoughts?
oh yea i like bucket seats so i want those with the console. i think the console would be very useful

will it be super hard to take out my dash?
It can be done, but you better have a LOT of patience and wiring expirience. Also a very good understanding of how the trucks differ between the year interriors you change so you can figure out the wiring. I am completely gutting my 92 and going back with 95 wiring plus the LS6 wiring harness.

Seats and console wouldn't be hard at all. Dash would be another story, I think.
The newer (95+) seats will bolt in, but you'll have to drill the inside holes and the holes for the console. Not difficult to do at all if you can find the seats and console. I have 94 seats with a 95 console in mine.

Just to be the devil's advocate, everyone says knows that the 96+ dash swap is REALLY tough, but has anyone actually tried/done it. Obviously the wiring is the problem, but if it was a part time driven truck and not everything like the heat/AC was really important, you could somehow use your old switches etc and basically just use the 96+ dash and put all of your components in there? It seems like stuff such as the displays, gauges, AC, heater controls will be what kills you becuase all the other electronic crap can just be stuck up under the new dash as it was on the old one.
i heard that the wiring for the old dash are one piece and the wiring for the newer dash are different pieces so that might make it a little more difficult. also have all the wiring diagrams on hand when doing the swap.
not to be off topic but cooker what kind of lift do you have on your pickup?
1994 Chevy k-1500 reg cab, 5.7 350, rough country 2-3" lift (FOR SALE), 4l60e, headers, heckethorn shocks, k&n fipk, soon to come: custom lighted bumper, new paint ...... the new lift is finally here!
Why would you want to do a dashswap doe something that looks stock? If you were going to go all thru that hassle i would do a custom dash

ok, besides all the awiring and what not, is the area behind the dashes the same? my dash is out on my 91 and it wasnt too hard to take out. i just need to know if they are the same back there in the dark

The best I can determine is that the actual firewall mounted A/C stuff is the same. The a/c plastic one piece duct that connects to the vents is diffrent however. The wiring of course is diffrent. The 95 dash should be a direct bolt in as far as mounting points.you really need to mount the a/c duct to the back of the dash, then attach the harnesses to the dash in their proper location, then attach the dash to the firewall. That is the easiest. I am lucky the dash I got is a 95 and the a/c diverter and wiring where not removed they were taking out all in one piece. I also made sure that the wiring went with the doors I am installing as well. They are the power locks, windows, and mirrors.
Ill make you sick if I told you what I paid for all the stuff I got.
The dash complete with cluster, steering column with keys and steering shaft down to the gear box, the gearbox, both doors in operable like new condition all intact with all power options, dash and all wiring, all interrior plastic trim, A/C panel and even got the POS factory radio. Paid $250 for it all.

Yes, many have done and tried it. For one, doing a dash swap and using all the old panels and displays would be a waste since they don't match any of the 95+ dash locations at all. It is a ton of work....very tedious and can be difficult if you don't know what your doing. Simply put, it's really not worth it for a stock looking truck. If you wanna do that much work I'd do it custom....all that work for a stock look just seems really pointless to me.Originally posted by LyaecZ71

Well, you'll need to find the wiring and complete dash from a 95 truck (since it was the only TBI year with the new interior). Go for it if you'd like but be prepared for a lotta headaches and many many weeks worth of work.Originally posted by kevinwebster1
