How do you get into all the real small, tight places on the air vents to sand and get smoothed up for paint?? Me and a friend are going to be installing a remote start/alarm by compustar in my 98 and while we have the dash apart, I'm going to go ahead and paint my trim, and was wanting to know about the vents. I've read the article on painting interior pieces, but thats just the dash in general, I need vents. Thanks

    Re: Painting air vents--

Well, after painting my interior and gaining more experience on this subject, I would say this:

-get them dis-assembled as much as you can.
-sand them with like 220 to start, if you rough them up too much, it will be hard to fix.
-clean them REALLY good. make sure there is no part of the vents you didnt hit with wax&grease remover.
-use a good adhesion promoter, like bulldog
-use light coats of a high build primer
-really fog on each coat and let them dry. i would go for like 15 light coats until they are a solid color (could be less, but im just assuming)
-do the same spray techniques for your color and clear.

since i havent painted vents before, this is all i can give. hopefully someone else can correct me who has actually done it.
