What to cover my console with?

I'm making a center console for my '91 out of plywood. It's pretty much built and fits great but I don't know how I should cover it. I want a tight fit but I was thinking of using a filler then primer and painting it but I don't know how well that will work since its wood. Or would carpet or vinyl work better?

Id go Vinyl...Lay down some foam then stretch vinyl over it. IMO it looks badass ive, seen one or two done like this.

I think vinyl looks cheesy when you put foam under it. It gives that padded 70's kitchen chair kind of look.

I'd smooth it nice with the bondo, and cover it directly with vinyl. Buy good quality heat-stretchable vinyl, and practice on some scrap. With heat, you can do a lot of nice things with vinyl.

If you do decide to paint it, I'd suggest either a skim coat of bondo over all the wood (especially any end grain), or get some fiberglass resin or Sanding Sealer to brush on, then sand smooth. If you don't, you'll use a ton of primer before it stops soaking into the wood.

I like the pink fake fur idea. I've been thinking about that for my interior, JK! I'm in the process of finishing my console. I was going to use an SEM paint to match the texture of parts of my dash, but I went junkyarding the other day and found a new dash to work with. So I am now going to sand smooth parts of the new dash, and then paint those parts and my console so they match.
