I went to get some dinner and my a/c fan speed knob was on 3. It's normally on 3. I smelled something electrical, but since my truck was an 05 I didn't worry about it. Next thing I know the a/c isn't working. It works on 1,2,4, and 5. I removed the entire a/c control panel and took it apart. I didn't see anything wrong. Now I have a new problem. I removed the knobs, but the knobs on the dual thermal controls didn't come off. They popped up and I'm not sure how to fix this.
Has anyone had this trouble with a certain speed burning out? Should I just replace the entire control panel? How much is it? How do I get the thermal slides back in place???

Alright you SOB's, I broke the slide controls for the a/c. I replaced the entire control panel and it cost me $199. That didn't fix the problem. The proble was a resistor located on the passenger side that controls the fan speed. It rusted and broke. I bought it from the dealer to the tune of $22. It took me about 15 minutes to change out. If I hadn't been so damn curious to see if I could fix it, I wouldn't have had to replace the control panel...end costs...$240!
But I did it my damn self! And now you know!!!
I got my 03 last year used and it dosent work on speed 1, but I havent done anything to it 2 is fine.

would the truck not still be under warrenty?
Is the old control panel still good or is it brocken too? I would reinstall the old panel and take the new one back to the dealer you should be able to get you're mony back for it.

Well, it isn't hard to find this piece, remove it, and see if it's the culcript. It's located on the passenger side. Locate the fan. Then locate the red wire and black wire from the fan and trace it toward the seat to the resistor. There are two electric plugs to disconnect and two screws holding it on. It's not hard to remove or replace.Originally Posted by OandA_Army
My warranty expired at 36000 miles. That was just over 1700 miles ago. The tried to take the old control panel apart. The problem with that was that the rotating knobs came off easy, but the knobs for the slide contols didn't and it broke whatever is under it inside the panel. I've thought of lots of ways to try and fix the old and and get my money back. It's just not a simple solution so I have to keep the new one.Originally Posted by The_Intimidator
