This is a discussion on NBS console in OBS pics within the Interior Tech forums, part of the General Discussion category; I hope this helps explain how I modified an 01 console and put it in my 99 hoe. this pic ...
I hope this helps explain how I modified an 01 console and put it in my 99 hoe.
this pic show how the whole looks put together
this show the bondo over the mdf @ the dash
this show how I put 3/4 mdf on each side of the factory console to make sure the connection wouldn't move
this is important...I used long fiber bondo (green stuff) completely around the connection @ the factory console. This area will crack if you don't use long fiber to reinforce the connection.
I made brace out of a hurricane strap from Home Depot, then drilled holes to match the old hole location and used the old bolts to secure to the floor.
I used 1/8" hardboard to make the deck area where the screen sits.
the finished project installed.
I used spray texture to match the plastic in the interior and used SEM paint to match. I sure hope this helps you guys, let me know if I can help.....
Looks really good, but wasnt that a pain in the ass?
It was a lot of work but I mainly did it just to see if I could. I had seen other examples and just wanted to give it a try.Originally Posted by phatblackhoe

Looks nice - but jeez, loads of work - how many hours did that take away from your work and family? I just don't have enough time to do stuff like this - too bad.

I'm an old fart, kids are @ college and plan major projects like this for the winter months when I can do them in the garage. I know I'm not up north, but it still gets to cold for most outdoor things, lol.
ok i'm in the sanding stage of mine and i bought my metal for brackets tonight ;) My problem is I cannot get the rear cup holder to come off the console so that I can get to the two screws in there to remove the storage spot in the center![]()
I didn't have to remove that cupholder, all the screws for the storage box are in the lip under the cover.
Sorry, I just looked at my storage box. It was a while back and I forgot how I did it. I just went out to my truck, there are 2 small black tabs on each side of the cupholder. Take a small screwdriver and push them in as you press down on the cupholder. This will allow the cupholder to swing down out of the way and you can get a screwdriver on the screws for the storage box. Let me know how it turns out. Good luck.....

when the cupholder swings down, you can get a screwdriver on the 2 small screws going in the back of the storage box.
Lucky dog. Don't get me wrong, I love being a dad, but it sure does take up all your time if you are going to do it right!Originally Posted by neptune1230
Again, nice job on the project.

I don't know why you couldn't. Start with OBS console and build what you want all the way to the dash.Originally Posted by KickAss89chev
