thats a clean looking truck, to my knowledge they did not come with head rests on the older trucks, at least the junk yards I have been to looking for a clean set of buckets, have not had headrests in them.

My new baby, 1989 K1500 Extended cab with a full size bed:
I really joined the forum specifically so I could do searches, but I've not found an answer to this particular question. It's got buckets in it, but there's no headrests.
I'm assuming they came with headrests? I can't really tell, at some point the back zippers on the seat upholstery gave way and somebody "fixed" it by stapling it together with hog rings. As a result it's hard for me to tell if there's a headrest bracket in there or not.
It may be a moot point as I've about decided to swap for some buckets that are a bit newer anyway. I suspect it'll probably be easier to find buckets than just headrests. Also I'm noticing these have a tendency to flop a bit so I'm reasonably certain the mechanicals are worn out.
By the way, "Lambrusco" ("Bruce" for short) is the name of the truck. Not me. It's all my husband's fault.

I feel you everywhere I go, I see your smile, I see your face, I hear you laughing in the rain, I Still can't believe you're gone.
a little bit off topic but if you are going to swap out seats i have an 89 also and i took seats out of an astro van which is the same style as in the 454ss trucks but just thought i would help you on what you could swap in it. oh and the astro seats do have headrests in them just non adjustable
1989 Chevy rcsb with a crippled 305 in need of a 350 pretty bad.....
Those seats are how they come as a lo back with no headrests.the taller highback seats(that do somewhat resemble astro seats like 89shortwide mentioned) I believe were introduced in the trucks in 90 and ran until 94.Astro/safari seats are ALOT easier to find in salvage yards and swap in easily with minor mods.
not to thread jack, but is the cloth pattern the same like in my truck with the lines in the fabric? not like the trucks before 1990 with the solid color fabric.

My bench seat is original to my truck and it doesn't have headrests.
You can't see too clearly, but here is the only pic i have of my interior

Thanks guys! Good to know these things. Blast, didn't get any notifications that I had some answers on this thread, musta forgot to mark it.
Yup. We're very happy with it, although of course it's got a lot of stuff on it that needs to be fixed (what you would expect, A/C, Cruise, that sort of thing.)
We're taking it in in the morning to get the bed Line-Xed. I'm going to touch up all the little nicks and stuff it's got until we can get a good paint job and a little bit of body work done on the few dings that could stand fixing. I'm going to be collecting all the little (and big) bits of trim and stuff that I'll need in the meantime so we won't have one big blast to the wallet.
Seriously thinking about putting leather covers on the seats. Expensive, but we'd never had to worry about another seat cover and we really do want to make this truck as nice as possible.
